Title: Decat Issues
Post by: funkyfive on 16 August 2009, 20:29
I had my decat fitted today by a mate and as i was driving home i decided to boot it!

Since then the blow is coming from the sleeve that joins the cat back system to the decat.

I have used some exhaust gum and have tighten the sleeve but it is still blowing.

Any ideas?

If you have sealed it, are you sure its blowing from there. Sorry to sound stupid.

Exhaust past will not seal that area as it gets to hot and falls out, further back is ok.

I checked the downpipe to decat and thats sealed ok, the rear box to centre pipe is ok, its defo the sleeve that joins the centre pipe to decat. My mate thinks its a knackered sleeve after speaking to him yesterday evening and says a new one will cost around £17. TBH it was blowing from there when the old cat was on but it seems strange that its gone. Its just two pieces of metal and to clamps???

Sleeve has been changed and it looks like the problem is the decat itself. My mate thinks it could be the gases echoing in the middle of the pipe. He also thinks that it might choke up after time.

So should i replace the decat with a decat from ebay (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&Item=220442738394&Category=38786&_trkparms=algo%3DLVI%26its%3DI%26otn%3D2) and does anyone have one?

I am not putting a cat back on!!!!!!!!!!!

You will need a cat fitted for the mot, however yes decat pipes need time to carbon up but yours was s/h so should be ok by now.

I am not too bothered about the MOT, as I have got a ticket for a year. I thought the same about the decat should already be carboned up.

Damn should leave it for a couple of weeks or get the cat fitted back on tonight???
