anyone no how to remove it? allen key is just spinning round now!
-
use a pneumatic/hammer gun thing
-
Your going to need an impact or air gun.
-
that stll wont stop the the centre of the shock turning tho will it?

Do these guns damage the shock absorber?
When i bought a weitec kit from c&r years ago, the warranty said it would be void if air tools were used?
-
An impact gun dosnt haave to be an air tool.
An impact gun will whip that bolt off in no time.

Thanks, i did know the difference
I just wanted to know if you could use either, and why c&r said you shouldn't use (i think) air tools.

Woops didn't relise it was you Quattro.

Maybe the battery powered tools are ok, but air tools aren't?
I was hoping someone would know the answer, as i'm about to do a polo suspension soon, and i'll probably be using the gun, well not probably but definately
-
just done mine now by air gun, be careful doing it with these as they are very powerful and can break the shock!!

Well I would never use them on the top nuts myself.

I wasn't saying not to do it. I was just wondering why c&r said it would void the waranty?

no idea. i had a quick flick through the instructions in the box and i never saw anything about air tools in there.. just "remove top nut"
-
I've used Mark's electric impact gun on mine a few times and had no issues at all, in fact I want one but can't find anywhere that sells the same one.
Nick
-
What model has he got?
-
No idea it's a black gun shaped thing with naff all written on it. Just has 1/4" drive on the end.
All the ones I see in Screwfix etc are like cordless drills and cost about £100, Mark said he paid £40 for his one. It work soff a fag lighter or clips on your car battery. It's flipping brilliant!

one of these will shift it

You can get battery powered impact guns on ebay, don't you fancy one of them?
-
Having one that hooks up to the fag lighter means quick wheel changes and they're cheaper.
nick

cheaper ones here nick http://shop.ebay.co.uk/i.html?_nkw=12v+impact+wrench&_sacat=0&_trksid=p3286.m270.l1311&_odkw=impact+gun&_osacat=0
i fancy one of those 18v snap-on 1/2" ones myself

Marks one is this one.

If you have access to the mains, buy one of these, they undo anything.

Amazing value.
I have one, and a cordless impact wrench from China
-
do those 12v things really have enough torque for top nuts nick?
-
Seem to, undone both the Rado and Golf ones in the last week and done them up again as well with no issues at all.
I guess Mark uses it all the time with no probs as well.
Nick
-
interesting.. i could break 10 of those and it would still cost me less than a snap-on one
now i just need to find a decent jack low enough to get under my car :lipsrsealed:

Bacause it is possible that the rod will turn and damage the seals.
-
Rod turning is OK as long as you don't spin it at mental RPM's a quick buzz with a low torque impact gun is fine.

Nice one bud! ive been looking for one of these and you have just saved me the trouble, have ordered one!
-
nick i said £14 not £40 lol! it was really cheap.
it wont do stuff like wheelbolts, but its really good for stuff like top mount nuts and pulleys

That's what i thought. That's the only reason i could think of.
Also i would expect the battery powered gun to be ok, but i wouldn't use the electric one, as that's a bit too fruity.
What do you think mate?
-
that laser one claims to be double the power of the clarke one.. 340Nm.. the 18v snap-on one claims 475Nm. Nick i'll let you buy one first

Its not just spinning it Nick, its the vibration some of these tools give off.
You're probably ok with a low torque gun like you said

I wouldn't bother with one of those guns powered off the car battery, they won't produce anywhere near the torque that's claimed...
Unless you want it for doing small jobs
-
My cousin is bringing his snap on one tommorrow to do my fronts would u not recommend useing it?
-
I did mine with a Snap-On impact gun, its amazing. That thing will undo anything.
-
I wish they weren't so f**king expensive
-
Cant you do a weekly payment with your local Snap-On retailer?
