Title: Sloppy gearstick gti 8v after i disconnected linkage, how to adjust??
Post by: grimmer on 14 August 2009, 21:59
Hi im just selling my gti, but just want to put things right before she goes, it was a 8v agg, but i converted it to 16v abf last year, i retain the 8v box on the 16v engine while i was changing the engine i disconnected all the linkage, the weight thing and the rods etc as i was gonna install the 16v box but didnt.....

now while in gear and netural there is around 1 inch play in the stick up and down only, while in gear u can move the stick very freely a inch up and down before it comes out of gear!.

the gears were all fine before i changed the engine, i tried the haynes thing below the stick but this just adjusts the stick left and right..... im sure there must be a way of adjust this play at the gearbox end?

Check the pinch bolt where the rod from the shifter joins the linkage is right :)

these tools are invaluable for setting up the linkages on early Golfs
