Just appeared on Autocar website. Looks like it will get the R32 tailpipes and some enlarged intakes in the front bumper
http://www.autocar.co.uk/News/NewsArticle/AllCars/242481/

Just added them on twitter.
Looks like a direct R32 replacement. They have just swapped a great engine for a more tunable one with low emissions
Fingers crossed for 4wd although going off a specced up mk5 gti i can see this being in the £30k+ territory! Ill take a second hand S3 thanks

R 20 Here's hoping thats what they call it. :smug:

Better get your order in quick TC!!
Isnt this just a Gti 6 with a bigger turbo??

ko4 plus 4wd...

and R20 looks like it has colour coded side skirts and not black ones as the standard GTi has.No doubt rear diffuser will be colour'd too.

Am I right in saying that it uses the old MK5 engine because the MK6 unit doesn't cut it?
-
Oh dear spaced, don't start that off! The mk6 boys are very competitive!
Bit off topic, but Topcat is your rear valance actually carbon fiber or is it wrapped? Looks great.
As for the R20, it's goona have to be special to improve on the drama of the R32.
-
No I read somewhere that they were going to use the old ED30 engine as it was more tunable for higher power outputs.
-
Can't argue with that then. Personally thin they should just lash a 3.2 in it and say balls to the politicians!
-
may aswel buy an ED30 IMO, cheaper, same engine and just uprate the suspension through roll bars, LSD and the like.
Cant see the R20 looking good... each to there own though
MKV R32 for me again then... or a bike

Are those LED rear lights?

Or maybe they are saving the new engine and K04 for the MK6 special edition??? who knows??

And for the love of god vw, show some imagination with the wheels will yer
-
Those wheels are just cover up / spy shots, the R20 wont have the GTI wheels.
I still hope the end product looks something like this...

+1. At least offer us a wider choice, like you do with 'normal' Golfs.
I just had a call from VW France with one of those post-purchase satisfaction surveys. I basically gave everything 10/10, but when she asked if I had any suggestions for improvement, I said "yes, the stock wheels are awful". ;)

....Or the 5-cyl 2.5 twin turbo from the Audi TTRS. Fat chance!!

Looking at the pics, it's going to have the same front bumper shape, grilles and LED DRL's as the Scirocco R, and the same rear diffuser with red reflectors in the corners, but with the exhausts in the centre. Expect it'll have the same wheels too:
It would be great for it to have the 2.5 out of the TT-RS but VW are a conservative bunch, so I bet it gets the 270bhp 2.0T out of the TTS.
-
I don't think the 5 pot would fit in the golf anyway.

What I dont get is that everyone wants the 3.2V6 to remain... so why not just give it a little turbo??
Go on VW!!!! You know you want to!!!
-
It would be nice if they fitted the 3ltr v6 supercharged engine thats in the new S4.

....I was lent one for a week - The Avant version. Superb engine and drove like a smaller car but I only got 19 mpg! Its new quattro with sports diff is very cool too.
I don't think the engine would fit a Golf.
:afro:

Red Robin
I remember reading that report on the S4, very good read. I too don't think the 3ltr V6 supercharged engine would fitted in the golf otherwise I think we would have seen it in the new RS TT instead of the 2.5 5cyclinder job in it. It would of been nice.

Im sure it would if they got rid on unimportant stuff like the washer fluid bottle, plastic engine covers, noise insulation.. and bonnet
or they could have simply fitted a small(er) supercharger / turbo to the current 3.2 :nerd:

It should fit. The 2.5 5 pot engine that's in the TT RS is based on the 2.5 5 pot that was fitted to US market Mk 5 Golfs. I saw a couple when I went on a tour round the Wolfsburg factory. It has been heavily re-worked for the TT RS though, including adding the turbo.
The Golf R will almost certainly be a 2.0 four pot, most likely the engine from the Scirrocco R20.
-
Good point, I forgot that!
