after crashing my mk3 gti at xmas ive had a mr2 and a bmw 320, but my love for the mk3 has drawn me to a vr6 on ebay, im going to view it tomorrow just wondering if anyone knows the car, or can give me advice of what to look for, looks a tidy example.

i wouldnt  pay much more for it, looks tidy tho, see how bad the rust is on the arches, check head gasket, servive history, makes sure electrics all work, and the normal stuff really,

the seller tells me has only had it 2 weeks, and hes had a bit of a mid life crisis, hes in his late 40's... which is under stable lol!

hes told me i can have it for £1250...  which i think is a fair price, just don't want my heart to rule my head!

I would be cautious about the miles.  120,000 is nothing for a VAG, but this is a VR6, guaranteed to have been abused, and it also has a tow bar, so extra stress on the engine over the years :S  (i think im right in saying that)

I would still be wondering why he hasnt put a years ticket, mabye he has tried and it has failed dont pay that amount of money without giving it a good once over first.

or take it for a good ride going over some bumps or pot holes if its ruff at the back then they will need doing,

and trust me they are a pain in the bum to replace

I know this won't be easy but check behind the back numberplate as it rusts like a motherf***er behind here, specially if it's screwed on,when I changed the plates on mine I was horrified.

The fact he has only had it 2 weeks would be reason enough for me to give it a miss, maybe he has found out something.

"Look at pics of dials showing oil temp and water temp (94c)" and this proves that he took the picture when the car was at that temperature not that it acctually runs at that temperature  It cracks me up when people do things like this when selling cars.

An MOT is £40ish....

If its worth selling, I would have thought it was worth the price of getting an MOT.

Doesnt sound like the buyer wants to spend anything on it to potentially sell it, which sounds a bit odd.

Sounds pretty decent to me although like mentioned, it's worth giving a bloody good once over before handing over any cash...but then that should be standard issue when buying any car anyway. Good luck.

The guy is registered as a Businesss seller which sugests he is a trader,if you look at his feedback he has sold a car through ebay before so I would think he has had it in part ex or maybe bought it to earn a profit on the car.Other than that the car looks a nice example right colour 3 door aswell which is more sought after and matching black leather. Its a 1997 so its the OBD2 engine that has got the better lasting chains fitted. Its a 12 year old car so its not going to be brand new so it will most likely need some bits doing to it.Main things really listen for the chain rattle as others have quoted head gasket (let the car tick over and wait for fans to kick in)check the floor of the car as usually you get a lot of sill damage from pratts jacking it on the sill.Check the service history last service and when its due etc but I dont think thats a bad price if he wasnt that far up north i think it would sell that pretty quick round my way, hope it turns out a good car for ya if you go look at it....

I would go and test drive it. If there is no chain rattle and it feels solid, buy it.
I paid 1800 for my highline just over a year ago. it had issues, but was well worth the money

bought it last night, the guy couldn't be more genuine, i was a bit sceptical, but his wife is making him get rid.. its absolute minted... looks like its just rolled out the showroom, before him,its had the same owner for the past 10 years, serviced every year and mot buy the same garage, every receipt for work done in that time... i even phoned the garage, and the owner said, the woman who had it insisted that it was genuine vw parts that went on, and it was well looked after! only done 10,000 miles in the last 4 years, full service.. etc!! no expense spared!!! all for the bargain price of £1000!!

now for coilovers lol! any tips of what 2 buy, or any one selling any? was thinking along the lines of an enclosed air filter like a viper.. but is it worth it?

The main issue at that mileage is the cam chain, has it been replaced.
