Title: Monza 2 Shadows
Post by: DL on 12 August 2009, 16:05
HELP ME I'M GETTING OCD ABOUT THE SHADOWS

I've asked around a bit before but it's now driving me mad.

Due to the fact that a scumbag broke into our house and nicked my wifes last Golf we could not wait or be picky about what GTI we ordered as we needed it ASAP. We managed though to get everything we wanted apart from the Monza 2's. It's got leather, upgraded stereo, winter pack but standard wheels. Now 3 weeks ago when it was picked up we initially didn't mind the standard wheels due to the excitement of getting the car but now I'm going mad. I can only find aftermarket replicas of the previous MK5 Monza's which are not black inside and from VW they are £425 each wheel without tyres!!

If anyone out there is thinking about selling their shadows in the near future or has not yet got their GTI and would possibly sell when they take delivery please let me know. I have a large bag of used nelsons for anyone interested and of course I also have a set of 17" standard wheels that would need a home.

I'M DRIVING MYSELF MAD LOOKING AT ALL THE FANTASTIC PICS OF MK6's WITH THE 18"s ON

If and when you get sorted, PM me about the 17's as I would be very keen to take them off your hands.

Likewise, a bag of nelsons awaits.........

Hi I am thinking about selling my Monza Shadow wheels when i get my new car 1st September, what do you think there worth including tyres?? I am based in the south of England.

I'm not really sure what they are worth? It's more a case of what they are worth to my mental health and for that I think I would be filling up my bag with £1,200 used nelsons. I'm in the Cambridge area so can travel easily around the south east or at worst can organise TNT to collect. I'm actually on holiday from early next week until the 31st so that would be perfect timing. Let me know what you think and we can sort something out.

Follow a few for sale on eBay Germany. I would imagine you could expect to get between €900 and 1200 euros, or just under £1000. FYI, I sold my 17s for €900.

i've got a gti on order and just decided to change the 18s to 17s as i'll probably scuff them.

if i changed my order back, how much would i be likely to get for the shadows on top of a set of standard 17s - straight swop? would it be worth it?

Good idea R32, if anyone else is interested let us know. I have cash burning a hole in my pocket and you could make a nice earner on the purchase of something you don't want.

Here's hoping

Oooh really?  I'm in Cambridge but I've yet to see a Mk6 GTI on the road... you may be the first one if you're ever around Cambridge!

I am with Rolfe on this one.
My old folks got a Mk5 GTI with 18s and it does not cope with their local speed bump and potholes very well. The ride deteriorate further as the car gets older!

I do agreed those 17s does not match up very well with the car. As I use my MK 6 daily, I decide to stick with 17s and see how bad it is. If I cannot put up with it, I will swop it for those gorgeous OZ Alleggerita HLT (17s of course). It weighs 6.35kg. The lighter weight will help my in-gear acceleration and handling (I probably wouldn't able to tell)

I think VW have tweaked the ride on the mk 6. My mk 6 on 18s feels the bumps much less than my mk 5 did.. which was on 17s..

I agreed with you. The demo I test-drove got 18s with ACC. The ride is acceptable. Better than most hot hatch except the Focus ST and scirrocco. Have your car got ACC?

Mk6 17s ACC> Mk6 18s ACC>Mk6 18s> Mk5 17s
So I expect my 17s Golf in Comfort mode should ride like a Jag!

No I don't have ACC on mine....but the potholes and bumps that used to make me wince with the mk 5 don't seem so bad in the mk 6...even with the bigger wheels

On 17"s ours is very smooth but still sporty when you need it, very good suspension indeed.

Thanks to everyones help in offering wheel swaps ect and because of this it now looks like I have a deal sorted out. I'm so pleased and now I can stop going mad.

Many thanks

R32, give us a little while and I'll drop you a line with some contacts who offered help. I'm a bit swamped here at work so apologies if it takes a few hours to get back to you.

Thanks for the mail. I am thinkin of selling as I am not convinced of the look of them. I still have not chosen any replacement wheels yet but I am looking. I would sale them including tyres.

Not sure at the moment what I would sale them at yet. I am currently in Dubai on hols but back next week.

you miss my point.  if rolfe opts for the 18s, she can swap them with the guys on 17s for a nice little profit.  i'm sure her mum isn't averse to a bit of profiteering?  :p

Rolfe is averse to a lot of hassle.  And has such a sweet deal going that it isn't going to be re-negotiated.

Rolfe.
