Title: My dealer is flipping useless!!!!!
Post by: neilgcal on 12 August 2009, 15:55
Hey

Well I am writing this post to vent some anger and feel better (and most likely bore you all to death!!)

I ordered my car nearly 4 months ago and it finally arrived at the dealer on Friday (in Glasgow and I live about 150 miles away) and I was advised on the Thursday that I should be able to pick it up this Friday. Prior to this I had everything organised with them, finance, insurance and documents they had requested for my plate transfer and what a joke it has turned out to be!!!

Called the dealer on Monday to speak to the Salesman I am dealing with and was advised he was on holiday all week (thought this a bit strange he hadn’t mentioned to me who would be dealing with the sale of my car now and what would happen should I pick it up on Friday as this is when he thought it would be ready). Anyway I then spoke to the Sales Manager and he advises me all is fine.

Then the next day I get a call from him saying that my number plate transfer has been rejected as they do not have a MOT Certificate for the old car and apologised as they are used to doing trade ins when they have all the details. I am not trading my old car in as my dad is taking it off my hands. Now previously they had told me that all I needed to send was the vehicle licence documentation and this was sent down weeks ago. Then after that arrives they then called to say they need a copy of the tax disc too, also sent weeks ago and I double and triple checked there was nothing else they needed or that I should be doing. I called them today to make sure the certificate had arrived (I knew it had as I paid special delivery for next day but was really just checking that something was being done with it) and spoke to the Sales Manager who then said that they now need a copy of my insurance for my current car and I have to take out insurance from today on my new car that I don’t yet have. This will now delay the transfer by yet another day and yet again will be later before I get my car!!!!!

HOW INCOMPETENT CAN A DEALER POSSIBLY BE???

Anyway rant over … my car better be ready soon as I am well hacked off!!! I will be the only bloody idiot picking a car up on 31Aug at this rate as its already registered!!!!

Fully expect to come and collect it to find that it has arrived in garish pink instead of candy white with some of the options missing off it! least of all the Bluetooth kit they are supposed to be fitting and the Scottish flag number plate I have asked for!!!

Bloody hell Neil, thats shocking. It's even harder for you when your half the length of Scotland away so you cant just 'pop' in. Maybe thats best for them or I can see you giving em a Glesga kiss

Anyway, try not let em bother you, they are incompitent fools.

You'll have your car soon

Doesn't surprise me to be honest. The level of general incompetence never ceases to amaze me.

Amazing rant, but I empathise with you. I can offer 2 areas of consolation:

1. the Golf GTI is amazing and well worth the wait (mine arrived last week after a 3.5 month wait)

2. I envy you for living 150 miles away from your nearest VW dealer, you must have some pretty spectacular scenery outside your window :)

Neilgcal, if you don't mind me asking what dealer was that or what area are they based in?
I'm getting my Golf from a Glasgow dealer, Dalmarnock area.

Any particular reason why you went to Glasgow instead of local in Aberdeen, Peterhead or Elgin apart from maybe price?

Just price, i could get it GBP 2000 cheaper in Glasgow than i could in Aberdeen. Im quite often down in Glasgow so thought it wouldn't be too much hastle to get it from there.

I have a cherished plate and the only dealers I have dealt with that can actually manage to transfer them with success is BMW. Rule of thumb with them is take it off your car and put it on retention, pick you new car up and then transfer it. It can't hold anything up then! I don't know why they have to make it so complicated though!!

hmmm, i have a cherished plate on retention and was going to get the dealer to fit it also pre-delivery.  having some doubts now.  however i'd prefer to have VW branded plates than some aftermarket place, plus i presume the VW dealer isn't going to charge me for the plates.

there should be no messing about if it's on retention.. it only gets complicated transferring from one vehicle to another (i tried for aaaages to get a plate from an old mk1 golf, but failed because i had no chance of getting an mot on it  )
