I want to give my Mk1 a bit more pep and was wondering if this head will fit the DX engine, I'm think this is the digifant version. Any help would be much appreciated

it'll fit, you'll need to swap the injector inserts for k-jet ones, depending on the age of your head the old ones may not fit, so you'll have to source later ones. 16v items should fit

is DX not a solid tappet block, threfor missing the oil return gallery for a hydralic tappet head ?
-
i was under the impression the blocks were the same regardless of solid or hydro? if not then yeah the dx is probably a solid lifter one unless its very late
-
i thought when vw changed to hydralic tappets they added an extra return gallery the sump. i know a solid lifter head can go on a hydralic tappet block but not sure about the other way round, proably will just on of the return pots may need plugging, just somethign that may be worth checking

I am sure your right and it will need plugging.

Right thanks for all that advice. It sounds like it will go on with the help of a good garage I recon I'll go for it
-
right well its taken this long but I've eventually found a picture of a solid lifter head from underneath, and its the same as a hydro lifter head :)
hydro lifter head:

-
maybe its the MK1 1.6 GTI lump -> 1.8 GTI lump where this changed?
-
i recon 08/1982 may be when it happend.

when you say "bore out the head" are you on about polish and porting the head or increasing the cylinder capacity of the block??
-
a 1.8 head will go straight onto a 2.0 block. you do not have to change anything, it is however adviasable to place the 2.0 gasket over the 1.8 head and trim the edge of the combustion chamber out to the gasket.
some enigne need it some don't but there is potential for the edge of upto .75mm sticking out, managable but not optimal
-
seriously thinking of putting 1.8 20v turbo head on my 8v bottom end. What you think

Don't think it will fit or very well to be honest.
-
ow, was told it would. Will take your advice on this 1
-
What advantages would a mk2 1.8 head with ultimate road cam and pully have over a standard 2.0 agg head.
-
mainly the ability to run mk2 managment, sicne the inlet manifold fitment is completly different. obviously the cam will make a difference, but afaik it'll fit the mk3 head as well?
