Title: Add on extras you couldn't do without on future cars?
Post by: p3asa on 11 August 2009, 17:25
My dealer is being a bit funny about me adding any further extras even although I only ordered my car 2 weeks ago. He said I couldn't as it would set my delivery back. I'm toying between a couple more extras and might go and see him in person.

Are there any extras folk have ordered that they now wouldn't be without on any future cars?
Or like wise wouldn't really order again if they had the choice?

Cheers.

Options I always order on my new cars where available are automatic gearbox, heated seats and sunroof. I have all three on the GTI and don't regret them.

Popular options which are of less use, IMHO (having previously had them) include xenon lights & leather.

Xenons!! You cant go back after!

Wish i had rns510, the mk6 doesnt come with the recaros but they are a must for me!

Xenons as Jules said.. not sure how im gonna go back to normal lights

No regrets as yet but then again I haven't got my car yet

I think any upgrade to the rcd310 is essential for looks alone and the 18 inch alloys

One slight regret is the lux pack as folding mirrors don't work on the key fob, but hey it was cheap.

Other regrets would be (if I ordered them) the leather(the cloth is more special), sat nav (just too expensive) and heated seats (no need in london).

18" alloys - a must for looks - the 17s just don't look right and make the car look pikey

xenons - a must for visibility and also for looks - once you have them you'll never go back

leather - a must (for me) as its easier to clean (and looks better)

upgrade your stereo - you can live without this (but if you get it you won't go back lol)

and if you add stuff to your order it won't put your order back so don't worry about that!

Yeah im always boiling in the winter! London stays a mild 20 degrees throughout after all!

My heated seats are a godsend in the winter mornings.

Xenons!! You cant go back after!

Have to disagree there, mate: xenons look cool from the outside, but having owned 3 cars with xenons, I can't honestly say they helped me see the road any better than with good halogen bulbs.

sorry mate but that is utter drivel! either you eat carrots all day long or the xenons you had were sh1te - the difference is massive, and visibility is so noticeable its like night and day (nearly!)

As far as I am aware, my opinion is as valid as yours and I stand by what I said. Whether or not you agree with me or not does not entitle you to condemn my views as drivel. I would urge you to remain as courteous as you are subjective in future.

New registration date?  In addition they will be carefully applying swirl marks and removing anti-rattle padding to generate future business

Phoned my dealer this morning who said I could add the Winter pack and Storage pack. Great I thought until he phoned back half an hour later saying my car had been given a production date of Week 36 (Is that 1st week in September?) and that means the car has been frozen in the system and is too late to add to.

That is just under 3 weeks away until production starts, does this sound right that I can't add to it?

i was told i couldn't make changes around 2 weeks after ordering, basically when production was confirmed or something.  that said i was told build week pretty much straight away.

agreed!  I would have regrets picking DSG.  sat in a Mk5 GT today and you can feel the gear changes, its not that that smooth.

The 'box in mine is smooth as silk, no real sensation of gear changes at all. Around 70% of the time I use it in manual though (which, yes, kind of defeats the object of an automatic but in true Maccy D's style I'm loving it.) Anyway, back on topic! I do miss the look of xenons from my old motor but I prefer the yellower light during night driving

People manage fine with normal halogen headlights. How anyone can say Xenon headlights are worth the £1000 asking price is beyond me. Once you try you cant go back? Dont try then, will save you a lot of money!

I'm not saying Xenons aren't good, they are, but not at any price. Why let a car manufacturer bend you over and roger you for silly amounts of money?

i want my golf gti to stand out a little from the other ones out there.  quite a few will get 18 inch alloys, fewer will get xenons as well.

before you ask, no other car comes close to the criteria i have for my car (i.e. practicality, looks, enough performance, quality, image).  xenons do make a car stand out at night from other cars and also in the daytime the lamp design is pretty foxy.

granted these are all cosmetic considerations, but if i wasn't fussed about looks i'd get the Leon and save thousands!

yes, the car industry does as a whole... and the clothes industry, watch industry, jewelery, etc etc...

surely that's one of the perks of having a GTI is to enjoy posing in it?  xenons are worth every penny.  they look the nuts and are far superior in terms of visibility.  anyone who says different either doesn't have them or is a pikey and can't afford them.

i have not got xenons as 1025quid is mental for lights so will just hold out for some aftermarket copies that will defo come out

just a word of warning for any of you that have just ordered or are about to order youe mk6 do not specify cruise control as this is a £210 option but can be fitted at dealers for much less after delivery

.... and technically be illegal unless you have headlight washer jets (which you might have has part of the winter pack), auto levelling sensors (which you wont have) and projector lens (which you wont have), but lets not go down that road.

i am talking about the ones the light manufacturer will bring out that currently makes the lights for VW, which can be attached to the levelling switch and with projector lenses.
headlight washers are not a legal requirement for xenon lights unless supplied from factory.

I said I wouldnt get drawn into this, but ...

Yeah, I was just going to say. Thats why I used to word "technically" as loads of people on this site are running HIDs without washer jets and levelling sensors and don't get any grief from police or MOT so I wouldn't worry about it tbh, just thought I would be Mr.Anal and point it out.

I totally agree.  I absolutely love the look of my GTI with the xenons and people come up all the time to ask about them and rain praise on the car.
