Title: Wheel arch trims
Post by: stu 88 on 11 August 2009, 15:56
Im having the lip rolled on my Gti but am keeping the plastic arches - How are they held on? Is it just the rivets underneith? because that bit of the plastic arch is being trimed so will I have to stick them on?

Yes they're riveted. Yes you'll have to glue them on. I glued mine on with Tigerseal.

Yes but your problem will be the same I had in that you end up with so little to attach the trim to that it will fall off.

Sorry but cant see how the problem will be the same??

Like I said "Im taking the lip off" so obviously I will be sticking the arch to the wing, cant see how it will fall off??

And if I have no lip on the plastic arch or the wing there will be nothing for the tyre to rub on .

When you try sticking the arch back you will see the problem, the arch does not fit flush to the wing at the bottom so trying to stick it is hard enough and trust me the wheel will still catch it as the trim is lower than the lip.

i see where wayne is coming from, but with a bit of perseverance you can get them glued on, i rolled mine and then glued using evostik.
has held so far, lol.
plus i like the arches on the gti! so the risk is worth it!
