Air ride!!!!!
This was the lowest I could get on 17's with coilovers..

By the way, that was with rolled arches/trimmed GTI arches. Wheels were 7x17" ET40 front, ET30 rear, 205/40/17 tyres. It still rubbed though.
-
i saw a dub once where he had lifted the subframe 7 inches up into the body!! - tottally slammed
-
have u thought about getting 195/40/17 tyres. the stretch should let u lower it a bit more.
-
Ive just put new 205/40/17's on :undecided: Think Im going to live with it for now then so for a set of 195's or 185's?
-
Dial in some camber on the front to push the top of the wheel away from the arch.
-
This was as low as I could run mine on 17"s, the rear arches were trimmed back but even with camber the fronts would catch now and again.

I switched back to 15"s in the end.
-
always the best way:)
i think 17's are a bit to big for a mk3
-
Might try a set of 16's - I think 14's look too small - not sure about 15's
-
yeah 16's look alright, just
but me myself prefer 14's - 15's

thats mine on 14's, down to preference though deffo:)
-
16s are perfect in my opinion
16s with rolled arches all round and you're on to a winner
-
yeah i suppose rolled arches isnt a bad shout
all depends how low you want to go i guess:)
40-50mm:) or sump about 20mm off the floor:)
-
just to hijack this thread a little, i have 205/40/17's, on rs4 alloys, do ya reckon i could stretch a thinner tyre on them?
or do you have to certain wheels for a massive tyre stretch.
as far as the lowering goes - on mine i am about 8cm off the floor on the front (dont know how much it has been lowered)and mine only rubs when i have 4 people in the car - but i dont think mine has been done properly!!
-
you could, but as fair as im concerned no point:)
the police could pull you for stretching your tyres:) and it fails the MOT
when you lower your car, like low!!
your turning it into a two seater:)

185/35/17 tyres will give you more clearance
I still say 16's are the best all round

iv got 17's and only the back rub when i have people in the back over bumps and stuff.. not sure how low it is tho..
jsut a small question.. mine is a 1.4 and the exhaust runs under the sump, so it is the lowest point perfect place to be smashed off if i dropped it any lower. but i am definatly into the 16" look. would this drop it by much?? i dont really want it any lower. also i HATE the look of fat tyres.. so that would drop it more..
on the otherhand.. how hard is it to re-route the exhaust?? or it that crazzzzy times?
-
well i was going to say that the tyre size would compensate for the rim size difference, but if you are wanting low profile tyres on 16's, will that not put the speedo out a little?
not sure about re-routing the zorst, sounds like a pain in the arse tbh!
-
i reckon you'd be looking at custom piping:)
-
oo that sounds expencive..
yes i see your point with the low profiles on 16's i think il find one of those stupid speed bumps that you have to straddle and see ho wmuch clearance there is.

Should be not any lower as the 16" will be running lower profiles but will end up the same height.
-
the 17's now are on low profiles. but then.. whats half an inch guna do?
-
seriously, if you wanna go low!!!
wack on some 14's or 15's, cause you wont get that low with 17's!:)
wheels will be in arches but splitter still like a foot off the floorr
