hi all, well where to begin,mk2 gti 91, 8 valve, started having problems with reving and its blowing out black smoke out exhaust so petrol problen somewhere, its as if the car is being suffocated of fuel, you try and rev and its spluttering and can barely rev then will die,and once its died it can be a nightmare to get it started again,i've tried different air flow meter, fuel pressure regulator, plugs,ht leads coil, petrol pump is working as you can hear it and smell petrol, anyone had simailar problems?
-
Hi, welcome to the site, black smoke and petrol smell would suggest to much rather than to little fuel.

Welcome to the forum,
Best bet is to try the search function on the site, someone in the past has probably had the same problem.
Also have a good look through rubjonny's 8v digi tuning guide in the mk2 maintenance section and make sure your car is set up properly first.

First of all, how long have you had the car? Did you buy it with problems? Try the digifant tuning set up guide in the maintenance section, but first, buy the blue water temp sensor that you will see coming from the pipe coming from the head and fit that. Get a genuine VAG one as copies cannot be relied upon.
Also look to see if the fuel return to tank pipe is blocked or kinked.
There are hundred of replies to similar problems as the ones you are having and there is a search function to help you sift through the post's.

I've seen a lot of posts mentioning the blue water temp sensor. Is this just digi's as I have a k jet??
-
K-Jet, are you religious?
You need to look into the WUR as it can drastically effect fuelling, as well as setting the CO properly (2.0%) on the metering head. Check all vacuum feeds and get the fuel pressure checked.
Plus, a '91 K-Jet, you sure?

That wasn't the OP, Ben
RSCPK - yes, only digis have the blue temp sensor
