Title: im now once again a gti owning member of golfgti.co.uk!
Post by: martinb on 10 August 2009, 00:45
After a few years of not having a GTI with the Corrado and then the Bora i have finally got myself another GTI!

Although the Bora did its job as a main family car perfectly and was virtually trouble free in the 10months or so i had it i never managed to get anywhere near as enthusiastic about it as i had my Corrado, so when the mrs recently got a megane scenic () there was no need for 2 practical cars in the house so the Bora was put up for sale or swap.

I had lots of tempting offers but pretty much from the start had my heart set on a 3dr mk2 preferably in either Atlas/Pearl grey or oak green so as soon as i got offered this a deal was quickly sorted and a swap for the Bora was done.

So my new project (after a damn good wash), just in time for E38:

its a very late '91 (reg 31/12/91) 8v
g60 steels
uprated springs and shocks
scorpian exhaust
goodrich brake hoses
Samco coolant hoses

wow not updated this thread for a while

sooo, since my last post i have.....

fitted a 280mm momo team, had one in my Rado and loved it so had to get another for my mk2

experimented with different wheels  :laugh::

with the car well over 200k miles now the bodywork was starting to show its age, especially after a careless delivery driver took a dislike to my wing:

my new pile of bits

found some infinity speakers fitted my mk1 project (RIP) and thought they looked about the same size as the standard dash speakers in the mk2 so fitted them...im not overly fussed by sound systems but they are certainly a big improvement:

swapped my original worn out clocks for the 160mph 16v ones i got from the scrappie....final mileage on the original clocks 203614    :

new clocks on a lowly 168745   :

changed the metal strip below the grill as it was black one in the correct colour also from the breaker, only minor but looks loads better:

and got a big package in the post:

coilovers fitted

before....

after....

changed the rear bumper as mine had been painted badly and the paint was flaking off:

also changed my 2 dented front wings for 2 straight ones:

my front bumper was also nailed where it had been riveted all along the top so that got changed too:

broke down today on the way to work  :( , big thanks to bugmania from E38/Vzi who happened to be passing and was good enough to stop and give me a lift into work, cheers dude!

Called out the breakdown cover after work and their opinion was it was the fuel pump - although could still hear it priming. Unfortunately apparently the car was "too low to recover" (quite disappointed they did not give me a copy of the form stating this) so i had too call in the services of workmate Dave and his trusty one hundred pound Volvo "Fred"    :
