Title: My 16V won't start if parked sloping downhill!!
Post by: p0bber on 04 September 2004, 13:47
I've had my Mk3 16v for about 2 months now and am well chuffed with it. However, my driveway at home is on a slope, nothing horrific, but enough to warrant putting the handbrake on before i get out in order to keep the garage door intact :) For some reason, if i drive on to the drive (nose pointing down) and leave it over night, it won't start the next morning.  It turns over fine and sometimes starts but stalls again as soon as it gets back down to idling speed.  I have to push it up onto the street (not much fun in leather soled slip ons) and leave it for an hour and it starts fine.  If i reverse onto the drive, it's completely fine.  Obviously I just reverse onto the drive every time now but it's not always that easy when out and about.

Any suggestions?

Thanks, P0bber.

could be fuel not getting into the engine ive had that problem on a few cars if the tank was under half full it wouldnt start on real inclines but only if it was parked nose down if i parked the other way round was fine, could try parking it the other way round see if that makes a difference.

Yep sounds like a weak fuel pump should be able to get it checked.
