Just been on ebay and came across a bloke doing wheel banding.It looks like he does a good job this is the item no 120453686499
have a look.

Q: hi very interested in this but i have a few questions. firstly i was under the impression it was made illegal to band wheels in the 70's - are these 100% safe and legal? secondly where do you add the width? is it all to the back of the wheel or is it half back, half front (to keep the offset the same). sorry if these are schoolboy questions. thanks, dave 08-Aug-09
A: wheels are sold for track and show purposes as i dont know the full story with the law, wheels are banded outwards, thanks daz

Sorry i didnt realise it was such a grey area.Look good on a show car but maybe not for everyday use. This is what happens home alone on ebay you find all manor of things.

What exactly is banding anyway and why was it outlawed?
Banding is making steel wheels wider by welding in strips / bands of metal, it the weld fails then it will end up a mess hence why they are not legal.

And this is the reason they're so attractive to E38 scenewhoretwaats.
If in doubt, get your insurance company to quote you to add banded steel wheels to your cover.
