Does anyone have better bulbs in there Hellas Quads?
I really want some brighter bulbs on the cheap and that do not melt the lens covers?
Before anyone says get a HID conversion, I really cannot afford it at the moment and would rather spend the money on getting the detailing done!
My current bulbs
Outer - GE 50310MU 12v 55w H1
Inner - Osram 12v 55w H3U

The same price to upgrade your lights you can have HIDs.
-
Thats a good price but its the fact that they are illegal and dazzle other drivers that puts me off.

They dont dazzle other drivers in the Hellas as they are projector headlights, thus not scattering the beam.

I would go with the 6k, i assume thats what you have?? The ebay HID conversion should do the trix I guess compared to the price of yours?
-
Just make sure its the kit that does both main and dip beam, there is several kits out there especially on ebay that only do dip beam and this will fail the mot.
-
Yea I'v got 6k, it makes a huge change.
They may take a bit longer to warm up than mine but they will still work, also I had a little problem of the headlight switch sending a trickle of power to the HIDs when on side lights, this ment they flickered, so got myself a Relay kit from eBay-
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=190249975174#ebayphotohosting
They are so easy to wire up,

oooo this is interesting now
need a few more peeps to comment on what is fact......
-
He has his facts wrong, mine passed the mot with this.
He is getting confused with the H4 bulb that is ment to have 2 filliments (Dipped and main beam) used in the lower spec Golfs.

So what did you do about yr main beam?
-
They are on the inner lens, why would you change them? Outer lens does dipped ONLY (Thats the projector that the HIDs go onto) and inner does sidelights and main beam-
This is with main beams on

Makes me laugh when I see topics like this where thick as sh!t people are giving out false information. Do your research before posting you flipping idiots. You're just adding to the confusion which isn't helpful at all.
However, Adam knows his stuff, so his information can be trusted.
I ran with H1 8000k HID's as my dipped beam (Outer lamp/Projector) in my Hella quads. I upgraded my sidelight bulbs (Inner lamp) with Phillips bluevision '233' bulbs. The high beam (Inner lamp) bulbs were ignored because I simply never used them after fitting the HID's. There's really no need to.
I wanted to put 6000k HID's in my fogs but then you can't put the casing on the back :(

I have always known them as Hella twins but quads would also be right.

Oh my god lads, was not expecting the topic to turn into a slanging match lol
I have decided to go with HID for the outer lens, the same as GTiAdams and put better bulbs in the inner lens (Not sure which bulbs to get?) as suggested by VR6-Joe due to not having any fogs and really cannot be ars*d installing and wiring them.
So one question to go is which type of bulb to go for in the HIDs? The only worry I have is that i do not what to damage the lens. GTiAdam was kind enough to assist me with a picture of the different beams.

Dw its only play fighting, no doubt shady will be round mine to argue while he cleans his car and I watch.
Go with the bulbs VR6-Joe said. You cant go wrong then.
-
Adam, I will argue my point and I await the email from Hella telling me what the exact name of the lights are, I can't wait to rub the email in your face :P
To funkyfive, HIDs are the way forward :)

Just for interest this article maybe helpful to people who just want to upgrade there bulbs
http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/products/products/60471/bulb_test_h1_blue.html
Best bulbs according to autoexpress
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Philips-Blue-Vision-H1-Bulbs-FREE-Pair-W5W-501_W0QQitemZ260450861309QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item3ca414c0fd&_trksid=p4634.c0.m14.l1262
Also for other forum users, why choose HID over a decent set of bulbs like the above?
-
Just to confirm, I received an email from Hella and this is what they sent:
"These lamps do not have a name as such. People often refer to them
generically as twin or quad conversion headlamp sets. Basically they are
the lamps that upgrade the standard H4 single light unit to main and dip
light units within a plastic frame. Therefore 2 lights either side (twin)
or 4 lights on the vehicle (quad). Also available is the upgrade known as
a III in a IV look and a few other variants in chrome. See pictures
attached. It's only our auxillary lamps that tend to have specific names."
So technically they aren't twins or quads, but I think from now on we should call them Quins :)

I dont know of anyone who has bought from this seller but if im aware there are only a few "cheap" HID kits about so two sellers could be selling the same product at different prices.
Don't know about that last bit
