Title: 1 way oil valve on inlet pipe, catch tank system
Post by: G60GTI16V on 08 August 2009, 23:52
my motor has done 60k miles and i pulled my dv out the inlet pipe and noticed a little oil on the bottom of it stuck my finger through the inlet hole and its a little oily in there you think this one way valve is leaking? worth changing, that why its getting a little oil in there?
was goiong to fit my forge relocation kit but il think il wait now...

its just residue from vapours.. i'm getting ready to rip ALL of that out from mine. Secondary air pump, n249/1112, PCV and EVAP systems. Then feed the breather from the crank cover to a catch tank. Everything was so much simpler when i had an AGU.. too many sodding vacuum dependent systems to f*ck up on an AUM!

explaining stuff is not my forte, but i'll be using this as a rough guide http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=3111538&page=1

Just going to rip it all out, blank off the hole in the head where the combivalve sits, whack some resistors in the stuff that gets unplugged to avoid open circuit faults and make sure all the important stuff has a decent vac feed from the manifold. Probably going to need to play with the mapping too so I can map out the 'thermal afterburner' like you do with EGR maps so I can avoid any incorrect flow errors that can and do throw up a dash light.

how much have you emptied out since fitting that out of interest?

was thinking of fitting a catch tank to mine - too much oil around the intercooler and egr for my liking really  :undecided:

tried emptying the catch tank just after I fitted it and only got one drip but I've done a fair few miles (well for me anyways) since then so I'll empty it out and show you the results later

i want to get a forge tank but only do them in sizes 10 + 14mm!
does the system have to be reconnected to the TIP? couldnt you just fit the other connector on the ctach tank to a breather filter? also will forge silicone hose be ok to use dont want it deteriorate and start cracking  as its oily air flowing through it?

yes it does mate, otherwise you don't get the "pull" you need to draw the oil vapour from the sump vent

Mine is a catch tank as well...
