Title: replace alarm/central locking fobs/keys
Post by: andc1 on 08 August 2009, 20:51
hi all, picked up my anni today and it has only got the 1 key, i take it the anni's are fitted with alarm etc and central locking and full closure, i cant use any of these as all i have is one key to unlock the door!!!

can i go to vw and get a replacement fob or key or is it a case of getting anther alarm system fitted

cheers

you can get a new key programmed form vw but the charge a fortune if memory serves and they order the key from germany and takes about 10-14 days
you could just add a remote central locking interface kit to it as when you lock it with one of these it also activates the factory alarm in exactly the same way as the factory keyfob
alternatively get a good quality alarm fitted

it sounds like if it did have an alarm/imobilers, it has now been disconected if your only using a key to get in.

The key can be copied at a key cutting place, they will just copy the transponder chip in the key you have.

itl probly be too much bother trying to get an old alarm working again with new fobs, better just starting again

vw didnt fit remote alarms to the gti's as standard! the key arms the alarm, has the chip for the immobiliser and works the total closure (leave a window open a bit and then lock the car but hold the key and it should close)
for extra keys try any good key cutting place (My spare cost me £20 coded to the original )

oh and buy some better security as mk3's are real easy to get into!! (I had toad thatcham approved and it saved me loads on insurance too)

My key wouldn't arm my alarm. Had to be done on the fob. Luckily now troublestarter has ripped all that crap out for me and fitted a nice clifford
