So how do you do it??? :undecided:
Havent washed mine now for about 10wks and she still dont look too bad... but how on earth do you keep a white car clean??
-
Bring it to the north of Scotland in winter and it always looks white with the fresh snow lying on it!!!
-
Same as a black one  wash it every weekend
-
Don't drive it.

Don't drive it.
Think we have a winner!!

My old Peugeot 306 was white and to be honest, it stayed cleaner than my black Golf. White didn't really show the dirt all that much.
A regular wash'n'wax kept the paintwork glass-like and the crud under control
-
You must be used to a dirty car with yours being black? ? ?

I am... i very very rarely wash it. thats why you should all brace yourselves for the dirtiest CW mk6!!
-
Apart from keeping it in the garage.....would get it professionally detailed from the off. A decently prepped car will be a doddle for a quick wash for those with lazyitus
-
yup, that's what i do, professional dude comes round the office every friday and for a tenner he makes it all shiny and new! then you don't have to do it yourself!
-
White is actually one of the easiest colours to keep clean and swirl marks are all but invisible. My Transit van is white and it hardly shows the dirt at all, at least in the spring/summer time.
-
Oh no, the dreaded white van man!!!! if you were not in France I would maybe think it were you who knocked me into the curb yesterday and damaged my 9 day old alloy.
-
How "professional" is he for 10 quid? Sounds too good to be true, otherwise where do you work? I'll drop my car off too!
-

Glad it wasnt just me thinking that lol

lol Iv got a shocking story. Car was starting to smell a bit funky. A few weeks back I had a load of mates in the back on a bit of a road trip and we had stopped in a McDess and got coffees etc, Id left them in the back and half them hadnt been drunk and where still at least half full, the milk was black, it was nasty. That would be the smell then lol

I know what you mean there Alan... those Maccy D's fries are a pain in the a$$ once they get down the side of the drivers seat  Luckily you cam just leave them there and they dont smell too bad after a few weeks
-
Gross   mouldy milk wouldn't that smell like  ? lol
-
Yes, correct, it did smell rank :D
-
what are you lot like!
its been said already.. prep the car... seal and wax it and it'll stay shiny nice for a while and then you give it a quick wash once a week
so one day every three months you prep and wax it.. then you just spend half an hour cleaning it once a week
-
Life's too short.
But I will pay you to do mine if you like!
Rolfe.

Might actualy get into this detailing molarky(?)

best thing for cleaning a white car is not to get one in the first place , my last car was white with white alloys and it takes two mins to get dirty but ages to get clean
-
And for your alloys, use nothing other than jetseal 109

Just washed my Peugeot for the first time in.... ever?
That gold paint really doesn't show the dirt. And where I lived before, there were car washes nearby. And when I moved temporarily, even though I was driving 80 miles a day, there were even more car washes, and one did a mini-valet for £12.
In this benighted spot, apart from the fire brigade doing a fundraiser every September (getting your car washed with a big fire hose is fun), there's nothing. The last time the car was washed was Boxing Day, when a neighbour did it for me - I think he decided I was letting the street down. (Actually, that's maybe not true, I might have been back west and found a car wash since then.) Maybe driving with two ice-cream cones melting and holding them outside the window to prevent them getting all over moi wasn't clever.
So we're going to visit relatives tomorrow. I'd have been too embarrassed to take it to anyone's house like that, never mind the ferry trip. So yesterday I googled for a car wash nearby. Good grief, if anybody is looking for a business opportunity south of Edinburgh, there's one right there. Got an address in Fairmilehead. Looked a bit unpromising on the map, and I thought it might be a home address of someone running a mobile service. There was another one, but quite a long way away. So I dialled the first one (as I thought), and asked if this was an actual drive-through car wash. Oh yes, close at six. Fine.
Sloped off from work early afternoon to find the place. Nothing there. Residential address. No time to go looking for the other one which was further away anyway, and actually forgot that someone had told me to try Sainsbury's at Straiton (which might be a DIY, nobody was sure), even though I actually passed it. Got back to work and checked what I'd dialled. I'd read the wrong number off the computer screen, and phoned the real car wash.
No time to do anything else, so I gave in this afternoon. Bucket of hot water, Fairy liquid and a brush. Rinse with garden hose.
Well, the car's going for scrappage in a month. Obsessive detailing wasn't really going to happen. It's clean enough, honour is served.
And I think you're all quite barking mad!
Rolfe.

with each of my cars i'll spend the first couple of months cleaning and waxing/ polishing it (though i now know i shouldn't polish so often).
that then passes and i'll leave it to those "hand car washers"
lets see how it goes this time around.
perhaps it'll be love this time?

Nah - bit of tar remover, AG SRP, poorboys wheel sealant (two coats) and then wax (I used Pete's 53) - fantastic finish and doddle to clean once done!

Hmm, why take 15 bottles to the car when you can just use Jetseal and go.

glad to see the mk6 section is following on from the 5ers, :lipsrsealed:

edit: do have to ask WHY this topic hasn't been posted in detailing for the benefit of everyone and not just mk6 persons?

Jules how many miles have you got on your R at the moment and when did u last change you brake pads/disks??
-
32700 mate, bought it 30200 in Feb.
I think i may need new brakes, getting a clicking sound echoing off walls when driving along. It goes when i brake? No idea what it is though! Maybe a pad shim sticking or something?

Cheers bud. I think im almost on exactly the same mileage but the brakes seem to be ok... did have a few problems with squeeking during winter but they are fine now i think
-
The bite well when warm and the discs look fine, the warning light about the pads isnt up either.
I need to get a garage to have a look, i think its only about £500 for a full set front and back anyway!

Not really sure what you mean by contaiminates ? Seriously Kermit, do you know how good Jetseal is on alloys ? whatever your using may give good results, but Jetseal on alloys is by far the best product on the market.
-
I believe Kermit is right - Jetseal is a paint sealant (I use it myself) and if you're sealing wheels that have contaminants, etc. then the jetseal isn't going to remove it!
You need to prep the wheel before sealing. It is a very good product though!!
-
Oh dear.
Ok, dont take my word for it, google Jetseal 109 and alloys.
-
I know you can use Jetseal 109 on alloys - it's a one stop shop for everything! The main point of my post was to mention the "prep" (as jamie has re-iterated) before applying a sealant which from the post some people might have just gone out and got Jetseal and thought easy peasy. Depends how much crap you have on your wheels too (tar, general road crap - e.g. contaminates - same as on your body work). Polish/clay all the crap off then seal (with what ever product you like - eveyone has their own fav's). You will also find people put a couple of layers of wax on top (as 109 is no wax) - then you can keep the wax topped up to protect the "seal" layer
