Title: WHICH? Members Car Survey
Post by: Len on 03 September 2004, 08:27
Bad news - no VW is featured in the survey, all below average.
Funny tho coz the Seat Leon made 5th in Best Buys for medium cars. And as we all know thats basically a Golf.

Polo came out worst - their advice is dont buy one.

Skoda Octavia got about 6th in its category and thats a Passat.
So dont know why VW arent liked by their owners.

There advanced cars for car lovers. If you dont love driving, And dont love your cars, You wont love a VW, Id suggest you buy a ford instead.

VWs are high costing, High maintance expencive cars, yet some how the public still think there in the same legue as renult, ford etc. When in reality when looking to buy a VW it should be viewed the same as a BMW or Merc, Big, Expencive, High maintance german cars who need love and cost a lot to run. There a car for people with driving passion.

This survey is not subjective and not the view of Which?

It is purely the info given by private car owners. So these people wanted to buy a VW in the first place. They have reported how they themselves have found the car.

Now i doubt very much if any of these are GTi's - just bog standard cars.
Surely its an indictment of VW if their cars are slated but their derivatives, Skoda/Seat are praised?

Over the last few years VAG group have been working so hard to build up Seat and Skoda as acceptable brands (and succeeded very well) that they seem to have neglected VW a bit.  I think this shows in surveys like this.

Despite the styling and price the mk5 is actually a very good car and will hopefully strengthen the vw brand again.

Its like my mk1 I love it but I do suffer for it. If I had a family and wasn;t really into her so much I wouldn't find driving her all that great. I love her but she is def a car that is hard to drive sometimes (or brake!!)

Yea its why i wont have a Mk1 - i like em but i wont drive on todays roads without ABS.
Also like air-con too. So i'm sticking with my Mk3.
Dont like the 4 or the new 5.
