Title: Waiting times
Post by: matchboy on 05 August 2009, 14:11
Just out of interest, I was wondering how long you chaps/chapesses have been waiting for your car?  I'm up to 13 and a half weeks and getting seriously bored of waiting!

I placed my order on 8th July.  I've been given build week 35, which is week beginning 24th August.  I'm sort of hoping any time after about 7th September, so if I'm lucky there, it will be 2 months total.

so does that mean you have taken a call from your dealer to tell you when it was being built, when it is being shipped etc?  i haven't heard a dickybird from mine

You ring them up and you ASK them.

I believe VW update the system on Tuesdays.  First time I asked there was no build week, but he was able to tell me what build weeks he could see for other cars in the system, which let me know where they'd got to.  The following week mine had a build week allocated to it.

I had to ring back several times because he was always "with a customer" when I called, but I got through in the end.  It was reading what other people here on the forum had done that prompted me to call, and it paid off.  When I got the build week the dealer also gave me further information about how long he expected it to be after that, where the ship comes in to and so on.

Yeah i got a call about 3 weeks ago to say it was being built and then one last week to say it was built and on its way over.

Rolfe, what did they tell you about the shipping and how long was it likely to take?

I think he said about ten days to a fortnight after it was actually built for it to make its way to the dealer.  However, he also said that they get ahead of their quotas sometimes, and cars can arrive a bit earlier than expected.  Which is why I thought I'd start hoping on about 7th September.

Which concidentally is the day I go on holiday.

Dearie me!  I may have to leave brand new Prospero tucked up in his garage while I pick up a cruddy left-hand-drive hire car in the Algarve or Corfu or somewhere!

Got my very 1st call from my salesman. I was told it will be built around september. Can't tell me the exact date. He reckon I will get my car in late sep or oct. I place my order in 3/7/09. Around 4 months wait is not bad for a car which is so desirable! Had wait longer for a car in the past!

Judging by your nick, that wouldn't be a Porsche 911 by chance would it?

If so that would vindicate Top Gear's review!

No, the longest wait is for a 2.5l boxster. That was in 1996-1997 when everyone was crazy about a 2 seat roadster----SLK, Z3 and Boxster. Remember those days when you can actually made a decent profit when you are one of the first lucky sod to get your hands on these cars.

The Boxster concept in 1993 in Frank motorshow looked absolutely stunning. I went to my local official Porsche dealer to express my interest and was told they will inform me once Porsche GB accept deposit. Deposit placed in April 1996 and my car arrived in UK in Late November 96. Pick up the car on January 1997. A bit disapponted it looks no where near as good as the concept car but I still enjoy every mile in that car!

I bought the gen 2 997 last summer. Waited just 4 months---thnks the credit crunch I even manage a good deal. Test drove a Vantage 4.7 and R8 V8 before taking the plunge. Wish I had won the lottery and take all three cars home! All 3 cars are fantastic in their own way!

The Golf is my daily transport. It will replace the 135i. Why Golf? Because its still the best hothatch outthere. Well done to those VW engineer who came up with the GTI concept in 1976!

One of the guy I met at a car meet drove a 3 year old Audi A3 diesel S-line to work. His other car is a Lp-560! He only use the car in the summer and when the weather is dry!
