Title: howdy, and what do you think of this
Post by: layzee_git on 05 August 2009, 12:59
Hey guys, this is my first post,

I have the chance of buying a mk2 golf, is started life as a ryder 1.6. It now has a 1.8 8v engine with a 16v box, its running twin 40 weber carb's its got some wheels (multispoke but very new) with barely worn toyo proxies all round, its got gti bumpers and trim and black leather interior, its pretty solid with a few scabs and dinks here and there

There's the info, my questions are what sort of power does an 8v gti make on twin carbs, and does this car sound worth the 400 pound askinf price?

It does come with 10 months test and 2 months tax!

Thanks in advance

Tobi

I don't own the car, its just one I've been offered and was wandering if you guys thought it was worth a punt? And what power they make on 40's

Thanks

Haha, ill think about braking it!

What sort of power can you expect from an 8v gti running 40's?

Good stuff, its not a bad little motor to be honest, rough around the edges of course, but I couldn't ask for more for the money!

Would be nice to know a rough power figure though!

700 bhp

Wow, I was hoping for 650, but 700 is good, and that's not even taking into account the extra power from my neon washer jets and electronic turbo!
And when I install my impreza bonnet vent the power will be through the roof!

I'd say that if the carbs are properly setup and there's a gti cam, you should be looking at similar power to a gti - 112 IIRC... and it'll sound awesome! Downside is, you'll be using twice as much fuel as a digifant.

That's a complete guess based on nothing, so you probably shouldn't listen to me.

it'll make more power than it did with digifant if setup right.

digifant allways ran lean up top,  seen singel carbed gti blocks pull 125bhp

Would it make a difference if it were the GU block and not the PB block?

Just a thought (before Captain grump comes along and questions my question  )

GU block = PB block

PB cyl head has bigger valves and better cam tho
