Im thinking of replacing the standard RCD300, but keep it to put back in when I sell the car later on. Question is where and in what form is the security code for this. Should it be in the owners leather manual somewhere, or a code attached to the spare key, or printed on a credit card sized piece of card?
Anyone got an example of how many letters / numbers so I know what Im looking for?
Thanks.

I could do with this info actually as mine is sitting in the spare room waiting for me to sell on when the MK5 finally has to go :(

Mine has four numbers on a card that's at the front of the owners manual.
-
Same here.
-
Yup, that's where it should be

Well I dont seem to have such card, only one card which was for VW assistance. Will the original VW dealer have it on their system or is there any other way of "obtaining" such code?

dealer sohuld have it on their system - just pop in with your reg and chassis number and they'll get hold of it for you.
Make sure they don't charge you for it mind!

If you have any problems then PM me with your reg and chassis number and I may be able get it for you, so long as it's the stereo that the car came with from new.
-
Thanks lads,
will get on to original dealer see if they can help.
Failing that I will pm you Jay as its the original stereo.
Thanks again.

I maybe wrong but i was led to believe that the Stereo is linked to the car so therefore you do not need to input the code should you choose to replace the stereo at a later date. It should just work......
The only time you would need a code is if goes into another VW.....

i do believe this is true. when i sold my old MK4 headunit i gave the buyer my code and it worked straight off
when the headunit was in my car, even when i disconnected the battery i didn't need to re-enter the code :nerd:

Nice one then, now wheres the best place to get a RNS510 these days...... obvious being ebay, but some look a little dodgy. Are there any "reputable" places online or any members know friends of friends?
