Having spent a fortune on my car I was unimpressed when the front reg plate fell off, not once but three times. I collected the car last Wednesday so I haven't had it a week yet. Phoned dealer and agreed that it wasn't really good enough, apparently my dealer has stuck plates on for years rather than screwing them. Anyway to cut a long story short they have now been screwed on - just keep an eye on yours anyone who has stuck on plates!!
By the way have put my seat inserts in and used the red tape - the dealer reckoned they looked awesome and should be put on the car as standard!! :grin:

Its actually known that quite a few people request that their plates are stuck on rather than the dealership drilling holes in the front grill. For what exact reason Im not too sure but over in the states people have managed to get the dealership to replace drilled into front grills.
Not sure exactly what purpose this serves but some people like to remove their front plate for shows/meets etc. So I wouldnt worry about it too much tbh. However if your plates keep falling off and dont need the option to remove them, then you would probably want to make sure your they are fixed properly i.e. drilled

Its a VW/Audi thing that they stick the plates on due to using the backers for the dealerships. They are a pain though because if want or need to change the backers you need to get new plates aswell as the plates are knackered when they are pulled off.
I screwed mine on complete with backers and they are fine now and it will be easy to put the original plates on when I sell it... (I have a personal number on it now)

Alot of makes stick plates on its all down to the tape they use. Each dealer is different.
I have some that a friend at my local dealer gave me after a plate came partly unstuck off one of my cars a few years back. Put it this way if you stick your plates on with this tape onto painted bumpers you have to be extremely carefull not to pull the paint off removing the plate :evil: I know as i had to change a plate last year i stuck on for MOT because of a crack on it.

doesn't having 'stuck-on' plates increase the risk of number-plate fraud, giving different plates to a car will allow it to get through speed cameras, congestion charges etc and the bill would end up on your doormat presumably?
I heard some time ago that Mercedes-Benz cars get anti-fraud plates as standard, even though they are more expensive; these plates if they are attempted to be removed will break up into bits so they cannot be put onto another car

Anti-fraud plates won't stop someone writing down your number and getting some plates made up though, will it?
I prefer stick-on plates to some monkey at the dealer attacking my £23000 car with a Black & Decker. In fact the last few times the dealer has let me fit them myself.

it would stop the casual crook though won't it? and i thought that you couldn't just make plates 'made up', when you go to places to get new plates made don't you have to have proof you own the car i.e. the V5 document amongst other ID? having said that i suppose you could bribe a bent number-plate maker to do one on the sly

Yes, you do have to have proof. Sadly though, it's all to easy to find companies on the web who will make up a plate without requiring to see any proof of vehicle ownership.
