Just so I don't get accused of being a mk4 elitist i'll stick it in this section
picked this up 4 weeks ago.. this is how it arrived
(http://homepages.nildram.co.uk/~dv8r/golf/estate/rarrrr.JPG)
Finally got the coilovers on today so took some more shots - this was literally as it was rolled out of the workshop, so it'll settle a bit. I'll give it a few days and bring it down a little more then get the tracking checked.
and a blurry one  (still trying to figure out the camera on my new phone..)
The rears are on the highest setting and the fronts are about half way down.
Big thanks to Nick, Matt, Rob and Ben at R-Tech for use of the workshop to keep me dry while i scrambled about on the floor.. and for the help with the stubborn front shock
-
looking good mate, :afro:
-
tidy
whats it go like now you've mapped it?
-
It was pulling around 195bhp and 220lbft on the dyno.. we couldnt figure out why it was tailing off a little bit at top end. Today i realised the bumper grill was completely blocking flow to the intercooler :lipsrsealed: so i removed it for the drive home.. goes a lot better.
We had a sales rep turn up today selling a bit of kit to test for boost leaks, so we whacked it on mine and found a slight leak from one of the secondary air pump lines (smoke and ultraviolet light, nifty stuff!) which might also be contributing. So i'll remove all that at some point.. and either drill the bumper grill or bite the bullet and whack a FMIC on it.

doh lol
hmm did you buy the boost leak kit?? could be useful as i think i'm leaking boost from somewehere :undecided:
Is Nick's FMIC setup ready yet then or is he still testing it?
-
looking very good pal coming a long fast.

I think the rtech fmic is next task, now that the new dyno software is up and running and pretty much calibrated spot on.. thanks to my super brainy inertia calculations
I won't be buying the leak tester.. Nick is thinking about it though :afro:
-
do they do a " discrete " spoiler for an estate tailgate, just needs that " something " at the rear  :undecided:
-
gonna attack the rear lights with some tinting spray.. since the only option for replacement ones is lexus style
apart from that i haven't really thought about doing much to the rear
-

Looks good Toph, needs to come down another inch
lets see how it settles first
did you have any issues when fitting yours steve? the nut on the spring cap on the weitecs was 22mm rather than OE 21mm.. and I had to really hammer the new bearing on to get it to fit.
-
I got mine fitted by a garage  they never said of any problems, unlike the whiteline ARB
Mine never settled that much, how you finding the ride?
-
looks stonking. Nice to meet you today too
-
Well i dont fall out of the windows when i go round corners now  but the ride isn't harsh at all, really impressed.
I would guess then that your garage reused the old bearings and just took the nut off the old setup... which I considered doing but solidered on because i bought new top mounts and bearings and was determined not to use spring compressors
Nice to meet you too Lee.. your car is bloody quick for a stage 1!
-
Good stuff
They changed the top mount and bearings, well they charged me for them
-
Now you just need a mk3, and you have the lot....
Looking good :D

Nice Toph. What's the spec on the wheels? Width, ET, any spacers?
-
18x8 et35.. with 215/40/18. No spacers yet but i might chuck some 10mm on the back once i've finished playing with the ride height. Plenty of room in those arches!

Looks brilliant mate, never really been that keen on Golf Estates but this one rocks. My mate has also just bought a metallic black 53 plate one with all the toys. THere are more and more of these 1.8T wagons coming out of the wood work.
nick
-
So mate,holding 21 psi,do tell
-
1.44 bar! managed to hold the overboost spike longer with the gen4 map
although i think i broke something because it wasn't getting that high on the way home tonight, but it was holding 18psi to near redline in 4th!
-
How the hell did you manage that, you using the std actuator?
-
that's one for nick to explain, something to do with the throttle in the mapping so not sure it's possible on an agu :undecided:
-
Its hard to explain in words but I will give it a try and confuse hell out of myself and you.
The me7.5 ecus in the AUM are load based what ever the requested load is for the ecu will do its best to produce it that why AUMs always make good power stock.
The engine torque is regulated via throttle position the ecu will make the power the best way it can taking in to account all the envirometal conditions, so you could have your foot hard to the floor but the throttle valve would only be open 80% when on boost, or in other words throttle valve position is not a driect relation to the pedel position.
So by allowing AUM car to run WOT when you foot is to the floor with the boost PIDs controlling the boost via the n75 duty cycle we can make the most of the boost to get some strong power at the top end.
We have been playing with these 4 maps for over the last 3 months to get it right and now its about 100% spot on I I can under stand the relation between all the map so I can make the power where we want, then you get Chris watching over me making sure every map is as smooth as it can be..
But saying that and getting this far with gen4 we have come up with another new aproach for the AUM mapping to flat line the boost PIDs / maps to work the same as you would with a electronic boost controller, so the boost will get straight to requested peak and hold there and using the load maps to control the power via the throttle valve.
I will be playing with this idea over the next few weeks. If I can find a victims car to play with..lol
Nick

I may know a man who'd like to see what you can do with his aum.

Yeah, I couldn't get it to look right with the tints. I'll try again later.
-
no real updates other than spacers on the rear, and legal front numberplate positioning after being tugged for it.. but any excuse for picwhoring. Special guest appearance from r-tech ben's new barge
