Hey guys (and girls)
I have a MK5 GT TDI remapped to 185 bhp and have just had a puncture on the front offside tyre.
Got it off to realise it was totally bald, through the wirey bit in the tyre too! The outside of the tyre still had enough tread to be legal but the inner wall was wear it was totally bald and ran through. I checked the other front tyre and the wear was the same, just legal on the outside and just as bear and in the wirey part on the left of the tyre. Got them replaced today but what would cause them to wear so unevenly?? Is it just that i drive round corners too fast or is it something else???
The tyres on all wheels are Michelin Pilot Sport 225 / 45 R Z 17's. The grip even though they were bald was great, don’t ask me how or I would have noticed earlier!!!
Cheers.

You need to get your car's suspension geometry aligned correctlt.

Have you hit a kerb or anything? as above get the tracking and camber checked.

Hey, cheers for the responses. Have not hit a kerb or anything .. infact in 3.5 years have managed to not kerb one alloy!!! Just wait for it, it will happen on the way back from work tonight!

I think the way GTI's are set up does tend to wear the inside out more than you might expect. I had a similar problem but a big part of my problem was the sportmaxx's which are notorious for wearing more on the inside. Got my alignment checked and it was perfect.
That said yours does sound extreme and I don't know if the suspension set up is the same on TDI's as GTI's...

Fairly common on all FWD cars - it's good to have a bit of negative camber on the front for better turn in.
It would only be of a concern if one front tyre wore out quicker than the other one, or if you still had 5mm on the outsode and the inners were bald.

Had same problem. Had 4 wheel steering checked and now seem to have the same problem again.
Is it inherent with Mk5 Gti?
