are they any good? i know that the proper ones from vw are about £60 and alot better quality but are the ones off ebay ok or should i stay well away from the cheap imertations? and if so why thanx guy's
-
stay away. slightest of touch with kerb or bump and they split in bits.
-
Tbh I'd go buy one fron gsf they are good quality and not that xpensive,I bought one for my mk3 and it's perfect.
-
i've smasked quite a few splitters now via many different methods (not on purpose! lol)
genuine vw ftw, all others break too easy from my experience
although i have broke a genuine splitter, but there was no way it was going to survive after what i did to it :D ohh and im not telling that story.......... :D
-
lol cheers guy's. so overall they look good still but brake easy. other than generall wear and tear differences to the original vw ones you cant tell the difference looks wise?
-
vw ones fit perfectly where as the replicas often come out the sides and don't fit perfectly in the middle.
seriously, buy gen.
I've already cracked 2 copies
-
you can normally find genuine ones on the bay or on forums. i've picked up 2 now, and both cost me around £20 i believe. :)
-
ok brill thanx for the feed back guy's i'll keep an eye out for the real ones
-
Mine is off the bay and although it seems pretty hard wearing, as Khare says, it does keep popping out at the sides.
Car is on the ramp again this weekend so I'll be treating it to a couple of self tapping screws
-
I will throw a spanner in the works and say my ebay special fitted fine (never popped out), had no gaps and got grazed nearly everyday and never broke! i think it's luck (like everything on the bay) as other people have had issues with the same one's!
-
my old one on my gti was off ebay, lasted about 3 years no problem perfect fit as well, stayed on the car when i sold it. strange tho when i trial fitted on my vr6, never seemd to fit as well :undecided:
-
I had 3 ebay ones, 2 never fitted right and kept popping off, 3rd was a good fit until dad found a low curb.

well i just ordered one off ebay that has alot of good feed back and its only costing me 25 quid ill see how that gose. i may learn the hard way lol but never to mind :embarassed: cant wate me car will finally start coming together. gave it a good clean up got some pressed plates on it soon me vr6 splitter and then all im left with is the exspewnsive stuff slamage exhaust system and wheels
-
Mine cracked on a kerb, same kerb got shadys splitter lol.
Got myself a genuine VR6 splitter, you can feel how soft the plastic is on the genuine. It just bends not shatter.

the same with me,got it from ebay bout 8 months ago, fits nicely never pops out and challenged a speed bump in reverse and nothing, luck i thinks

Genuine ones get nicked all the time
GSF/Ebay ones are moulded trade shop stylee with all the regrind chucked in plus some more black masterbatch which makes them weak and stressed at the hardest point to fill, the quality varies quite a lot across the batch as well.
Either drive more carefuly or buy VW (which is probably made in the same place now)
-
I got mine from GPC (VW Audi parts) think thats what they are called. They sell genuine VW etc parts and they are £25 plus postage for a genuine VW VR6 Splitter.
-
just checked that GPC website.....are those new parts or used? if they're new parts, they're cheap as chips
-
I think most of it is new, they do used parts aswell i think. Just get them to confirm when you phone to order as they don't trade online (i think).
-
Having originally gone the ebay route and ended up with a thin, brittle and ultimately broken spoiler I followed the advice on this forum and bought a replacement unit from:
http://www.awesome-gti.co.uk/product.php?xProd=3584&xSec=134
It fits perfectly! no centre gap, the sides have 'locked' into the bumper very securely and show no signs of coming free and the overall weight and finish is far superior.
Don't bother with the false economy on ebay.
-
Wish Id seen this thread before I brought my one off ebay :undecided:
Ive just fitted my bargin ebay one - One side the clips dont hold on to the bumper very well so had to pack them out a bit and the other side fitted fine nice and tight untill........ i pushed the end bit (near the front wheel) and it snaped
I conclude - Dont buy a cheap ebay one they are sh*t!!
Everything I put on my golf is genuine VW - The one aftermarket bit I put on is crap - think Ill stick to OME

Same issues I had.
-
I bought mine from gsf, fits perfectly and was easy to put on and hasnt popped out at the sides at all ever
-
got mine for £35 from a local supplier.
its spot on seems good quality but when i smashed my old one off i snapped a tab of the actual bumper so dosent quite pop right in, no fault of the splitter tho!
and they look MILES better then the standard ones.
