hi folks,
just out cleaning my egr/intake manifold at present (man there was a lot of crap in there!) and i'm looking at my turbo intake and seeing all the gunk and s**t in there - can I pour anything down inside to clean it or any other methods? Or should i just leave it be...?
Thanks
-
seriously.. anyone....
:)
-
just wipe out what you can reach.. don't go pouring stuff in it
-
Carb Cleaner probably, and a cloth will do just fine, as topher says.
-
Ideally you want to remove it and clean it properly.
-
okay removing is no problem, what can i do to clean it once it's off?
-
Carb cleaner, 'gunk' from halfords.. thinners, petrol.. whatever. Just make sure its clean and dry before you put it back on. That is assuming you're taking just the intake pipe off to clean, and not the whole turbo :afro:
-
oh no see i'd like to clean to whole turbo, if not possible, no worries, just need to know asap before i put the intake manifold back on
-
I'll take that as a 'no' then....
-
Use carb cleaner and a lint free cloth, just clean the gunk out.
-
just be carefull messing with the turbo as you could easily ruin the oil seals and possibly the balance!
-
You can clean it with pretty much anything that cleans and isnt likely to cause corrosion but make sure its pretty dry before fitting (dont worry too much, anything exhaust side will be promptly burned off and anything inlet side will get burned in the engine) and prime the oil system before you start it up if you go cleaning the centre section out (or pouring tons of cleaner in there). Whatever you do, dont try taking the wheels off for cleaning, they are balanced and you will put this out by seperating the assembly which you "might" get away with but "probably" wont.
Its not going to make much of a difference to the cars performance though .

Thank you sir!
What is this priming the oil of which you speak?
