does a mk 1 cabrio from 89 have a mk 2 8v engine? as normal mk 1's stopped being produced in 84 i understand but the cabrio was made till the early 90's

Very good point, yes could also be carb.

but yeah either way it will be essentially the same as the equivilant MK2 8v engine, except the cabby kept k-jet injection right up to the last couple of years of productiuon whereas it was dropped from the MK2 in 88. with the mk1 the only real difference to MK2s was on the injection cars, the airbox was on the opposite side, with the carbs it was pretty much the same. plus the exhaust system is different too

cheers guys, it is a gti so is injection and its exactley as rubjonny discribed
its a really nice car in brilliant condition i will put some pics up at some point. completely standard except for a stainless janspeed system
