Title: possible first problem
Post by: adw555 on 01 August 2009, 13:32
...not yet a week old and with only 200 miles it looks like I have an issue. Three times now I've stopped at traffic lights/junction and the revs haven't dropped properly to the normal idle of 900'ish rpm...it only drops to about 1100 and there is a slight pulsing....most of the time it's ok...but 3 times so far in 2 days...

back to the stealer on monday to see if any faults show up...gutted...my old mk 5 never missed a beat in 4 years...ahhhh

Is when the car is cold or just at random times?

Do you have the Auto-Hold option? If so thats where your rev's are going

no auto hold unfortunately....and it has done it 3 times...once when cold and twice when warm...random really :-(

So dealer hooked it up to vagcom, but no reported faults logged....so will just have to see if it sorts itself out or gets worse I guess...that's the worst of these new engines..unless it tells the dealers what's wrong they don't seem to want to do anything

Also, I get this tingling sound at about 2400 revs (not there before 2400 and goes away after 2400 revs) when accelerating..it's either supposed to sound like this or I have a loose exhaust bracket/heat shield etc.....anyone who has their mk 6 yet hear anything slightly similar ?

Could that be the so called "sound generator"?

So far, I have not heard anything out of the ordinary from the engine side of things. Its pretty loud actually. No tingling feeling at 2400 rpm either. At that rpm, you are travelling at 80-90 km/h. right? Prolly at gear 6 already? Could it be because there is a lack of power? The kind you get when you try to accelerate but you are at the wrong gear kind of tingling or what? (changing to a high gear when you have not the speed)... Can you be more specific... I will go for a drive later and check...

Mine has the same sound. I've driven 4 gtis now and they all have it with differing degrees of loudness. Asked the head technician what it was and he said it was just the exhaust and not the heat shield and it's fine.

Thanks KVW......I actually quite like the sound....just wanted to make sure it wasn't a big issue :-) ...the dealer said the same thing and if I want to drive another one I can come down to compare...
