Title: Help With Fuel Gauge
Post by: kingalidaei on 01 August 2009, 10:32
Hi,

I bought a 1995 Golf GTI yesterday, only cheap but i bought it knowing there were a few bits to be done to it,

one thing i need to know is the fuel gauge is intermittant and as a result i believe the problem to be with the sensor in the tank not working at all times, could you please advise how i can change this sensor, as i have been told there is a chance it could be under the rear seats and should be quite an easy fix

Any Ideas

Many Thanks

in the boot , lift out the carpet, theres a blanking plate with 3 phillips head screws , take these out, then lift up the plate, dissconnect fuel pipes and remove the large plastic ring round the top of the tank, then lift the top off and you should be able to acess the sender

Yes as above then take the wire off the sender unit, switch ignition on and touch the wire to earth, if the guage goes all the way to the top its the sender unit if it does not look elsewhere or repost for further advice.
