Title: seat inserts
Post by: gossa on 30 July 2009, 08:15
bought some of these off of ebay (I think the guy is a member on here).

Fitting some red electrical tape on the back and fitted with blutac, very sweet addition to any GTI. Sorry for blurry pic!

Blimey that looks good. Loving the OEM look of it. Don't suppose you have the Bay link for them?

Thanks for the pic. I got a pair of these a few weeks ago as I wait for my car (only a couple of weks to go now!) and was wondering what they looked like fitted. Did you try them without the red tape first? What did they look like?

No I didn't but I guess they would look exactly like the pic on the ebay description.  My car is red so it all looks sweet, might not do the tape if the car had less red detailing (i.e. silver DSG car with leather).  I have a lot of little red bits going on.

:(

FYI the forum member on here that sells them is called GulfStream. The inserts, not the keyfob badge.

Well, here I am answering my own post from a few days ago. I fitted mine without the red tape, basically because I didn't have any, but also because I wanted to keep things discreet. Here's a pic for those interested:

Sorry, but looks much better with the red imo.

Might as well jump on the bandwagon and post mine. Red looks better in my opinion, but each to their own

Edit: forgot to say held down with doublesided tape

That looks good because you've got the all-black leather. The red stitching and stripes in the tartan cloth are not very 'bright' and the two different hues would clash, IMHO. Anyway, if I change my mind, I somehow don't think it's going to take too long to modify ;)

Im not sure what the layout is on the MK6 but I've just got in from adding my metal footrest to the MK5. If you like the seat inserts then you might like this as well. Sold by the same seller. The red tape makes an appearance again :D

Not bad. Would look good on LHD models, which have a more 'natural' footrest over the wheelarch.

MMM, that font looks very different to mine, I think they are from a different source.

I've done mine with the red tape and imo they look better.  Where did you order yours from? the font of mine is different, got mine from rich351golf on ebaythe item number is 290316669984.

yeah the fatter font looks closer to the actual Golf GTI font.

seems to be slightly smoother as well, cleaner cut and fits a tiny bit better.

Footrest

Looks good. I'm tempted by the plain one though! If it fits that is

I hadn't noticed, but you're right, they do look different. To be fair, my photo is a bit blurred and doesn't make the insert look very tidy, but in reality it's ok.

The first picture looks like the ones a forum member here spent a while developing and then manufacturing (goes by the name gulfstream on here - rich351golf on ebay).  He spent quite a while fettling them and looking for feedback from forum users when he developed them to get the look and fit spot on.  Beware of cheap copies.

This is his products on ebay

You're right actually, the originals do look nicer (slightly tapered towards the rear). I must have bought a cheap copy :( I know this is going to bug me, so I just ordred a 'proper' pair from eBay UK.

Is the lever these go on to the one for pushing the seat forward in 3 door cars?

Cheers, so there will be an insert on the 5 door cars. I was beginning to think it was only really for 3 door cars.

The original picture was mine and it's a five door.
