Title: speed
Post by: tobybrennan on 29 July 2009, 19:47
i own a 1.6GL standard with 101bhp

but its not the quickest thing, i'm wondering about trying to add a couple more brake!!

i've done this obvious:

new oil, new spark plugs, new oil filter, new ht leads
pipercross panel filter
drilled airbox, modified so good big cold air feed comes through vents at front
shes riding low
and i have a new back box

just wondering what else would get me more drive out of this car?
i do have an alright budget, and things can be done over time:)

thanks in advancee!

Everyones going to say "Vr6" "Sell it" as usual.

Port and Polish
Cam
Chip remap
De-cat
Back box aint going to improve power, get a whold system that is bigger bore and less restrictive.

you arn't going to get massive gains but prob restore the standard BHP+ a little more.

Sorry

Your not going to see big gains to be honest, but as Adam said you could see small gains with a few simple mods.

Even if you brought a gti 8v people still would have said  the same SELL IT ! lol but they are are if your looking for more power gain your better of selling it and getting a 16v at least then at least you will see some decent BHP! then spend your money on it getting more BHP out of it, at least then you would see more for yor money.

It's the same with most small engined cars though... Why waste money making it faster when you could just buy a faster car?

If the engine is tired, i'd look out for a better low milage one and work on getting that up on BHP, but it is only one option to consider.

Good luck even finding another 1.6 GL engine lol.

all good ideas. But the one that seems more effective, is to sell it and buy a 16v gti? Its just its not the easiest thing to sell your car and get the right price. I think i will do that in the near future, plus i'd see a major boost in my insurence :(
