What level of ground was this pic taken on? Was it on a slope or anything?

I would see what it looks like on flat ground with the wheels straight as Mikesters looked a bit funny but was fine after we looked at it on flat ground with the wheel straight

They are not normal, whether lowered or not.
They are worn out, and need to be replaced.

Mine and alot of other people here have that happening with lowering.

Does it creak and knock when turning?

It is the top mounts that have failed again or have not been put together correctly.

This tends to happen when poor quality mounts are used.
The rubber goes out of shape.
They should be replaced when they look like that.
Here is what they should look like:-

If new mounts have been recently fitted then they are poor quality items.

Hard to say, but it is possible.
The only way to tell is to jack the car up, grap the spring and see if there is any 'give'

just go it back, guy said top mounts are fine, although he took them off and replaced them anyway, needed new brake pads as one had split and was stuck to disc

Good stuff. If you checked my link then you would of seen how new ones should look.
The mechanic was lying to you, new mounts should not have any noticeable gap.

Will the top mounts explain the horendous knocking coming from the front especially when braking hard down hill.

coz i think i got the same problem.. The handleing is fooked and it knocks and bangs over the slightest bumps.

Its driving me nuts and the rear is just as bad to.... any suggestions.

Check your anti-roll bar links. They come undone sometimes, like on our Golf, they squeaked and knocked when braking ect.

My top mounts are raised, obviously worn out. What is the disadvantage to this, other then having raised mounts? (Sorry for acting ignorant)

If they are left and fail the shock could punch a hole in your bonnet.

what do you mean top mounts raised coz on mine  theres about 10mm or 15mm gap  between them from the strut mount to the srut tops.
