also how do you find out what the codes mean on these?
cheers

That should do the trick nicely. I run one and had it for years, used on many cars and bikes.
The codes are on here somewhere with their relevant faults listed.

cheers mate

Obviously depending on age you might need the OBDII 16-Pin to the 2x2 set-up, but I think yours is new enough to have the proper plug *cough*Unlike mine  lol*/cough*. Or pop down scrappy cut off an OBD and hard wire it in, same wires in later golf just the newer plug shape.
Once I fathum which heater control cables go to which lever I should be doing the same too, save me digging out the 2x2->16-Pin each time.

Yes that should work fine if it has the right plug to suit your car.
You usually get a list of fault codes with the reader. Or you can google the fault code.
I have the older version of this one and it works fine.

Take your ash tray out ... Pull it out as normal, then push the little button in the middle on the bottom of the tray, then pull it out all together, then above the cigy lighter there should be a sliding panel, that will slide into the now open ash tray hole.
If you dont have this slidy panel, then it should be behind the blanking plates to the right of the heated window button.
You'll either have the larger oblong 16-Pin plug or you may have 2, 2 pin plugs, one white one black. That reader will work on either system, but you will need a 2x2 to 16-Pin converter if you have 2, 2 pin plugs, but the reader wil still work as normal.

excellent, thanks for that
Big Help!
-
one more question...
is it easy to work?
Thanks
Dave

yeah simple, plug it in switch the car on and use the relevant buttons on the reader.
-
is it specific, I.E does it tell you which abs sensor is not working(or give the code for it)
-
should do. the one ive got is slightly different to this one, but i got a book of all the codes in it.
-
It'll give specific codes if the car is designed to do so. The codes it reads are already being seen by your ECU, this reader basically pulls those errors codes from the ECU for you to see.
It powered by your car, so as soon as you plug it in, ignition or not, it'll turn on then search through the Codecs to find which your car uses. Then it'll scan.
Not sure those units come with general errors codes, but some cars can have manufacturer specific ones which just require a google hunt useually.

just got this and it works great.....showed up the usuall abs speed sensor code
