Hey guys not sure what the plastic lip around the front windscreen is supposed to be called but anyway, Mine is cracking and looks sooo shabby. and sooooooo brittle now, I'm mainly worried if this will cause my to have water leaks inside me car?
Can I buy a replacement lip?
On a P Reg GTI, anyone else had this before?
-
If it the one along the bottom near the bonnet that is available I believe, the one around the windscreen is only available with the windscreen.
-
the plastic lip i mean is the one thats just at the bottom of the windscreen, i think it overlaps the windscreen, not sure now. but anyway it needs changing. will it cause me to have water leaks?

Scuttle panel, if you left it up you will see 2 drain holes, clean those out and go from there.
-
Scuttle panel, If i lift it up it will fall to pieces lol its that brittle. Can these be replaced? and how much?

Available new from VW or try and find them s/h, lots of cars being broken so should be easy.

Every one you look at, at that age is brittle, mines in a trrible state, I don't think it matters, I don't get any leaks into the car, it all feeds into the scuttle and away... I wouldn't worry about it apart from looks.
-
you got a sunroof dude??????might be leaking from there.
this happened to mine and you have to clean out the sunroof drain channels.
scuttle panel is available from main dealer, but you might need to buy the clips as they snap if you dont know how to take it off
-
lol, I dont have any leaks lol, all i was asking is will this cause me to have any leaks.... (in the future) lol
-
yeah thats the scuttle panel, dealer only part unless u find a s/h one.
-
How much are they? anyone know?

Hey mate
I have no idea on price but id also like to know, Im from Middlesbro too and i have (Kinda) the same bother,
I have a blockage under my scuttle panel causing a leak into the car, (which i know you dont have.)
But im worried about taking my scuttle panel off to clean underneath incase i crack mine or snap those pins that hold it on, as im not sure if they pop out or screw, but my moneys on them popping out...
I dont think mine is quite as brittle as yours sounds ( i hope)
Let me know if you get a dealer price, a second hand one might not be in much better shape!
If all fails i can tell you there is a good breaker called s.p.c morgan in guisborough which will likely have one if you pay them a visit
http://www.morgan-autosalvage.co.uk/
Their website parts list isnt always up to date though so its always best making a call or maybe going down to check :)

ive got the part numbers and price i paid at home, will have look once i get back from work.
-
right part numbers for the scuttle panel
W1H2 819 416 CB 41 - £23.04+vat
W1H2 819 415 BB 41 - £32.54+vat
u will need to get both parts for the complete scuttle panel.

Cheers mate, Ive been to morgan afew times, not for my golf tho, but cheers. what model mk3 u got?
I think a new scuttle panel is needed because its cracked in afew places hence very brittle.
-
Also if yours is like mine, and u remove it to clean the drain area, I would think it'l crack/break because of the brittleness. hope i'm wrong mate. Otherwise you'll be doing a trip to morgans lol.
-
Did you manage to get a new cover mate?
Ive cleaned the drain holes on my car and done the pollen filter, I scrubbed up my scuttle panel covers and refitted them and they are fine, look almost new so not bad for an N reg!
-
good luck with those fing clip screw things, most frustrating things ever lol

Mine were bad as well, needed to replace the scuttle panel cos it was completely goosed where the rubber part is that sits on the screen, got one from a breaker in top condition for £15 complete  but what a job getting those flippin' clips off
Had to slide a screwdriver underneath them to get them to unscrew
-
Picked one up tonight also, in pretty good nic for £15. Could say its mint i suppose.
-
Havent had chance yet, got loads to do to mine at the mo.... just cant find the time with work and my hectic life lol... and pleasing my girl lol... anyway back to the topic lol... i'm gunna change mine sooon when i get one and want my pollen filter changing coz its quite smelly, Just have one question... was looking around the scuttle panel the otherday and noticed that on the Bottom of the windscreen, i have like a white (looks like condensation) build up in places.... Is this because of the scuttle panel been in such a shabby state?
Cheers guyz.
-
Probably wont be helping ...but no its not just that, If its what im thinking you are meaning its usually when a bit of damp or wet gets under the window seal / bond and gets between the laminate you get that like white misted look....happens on loads of old cars/screens or cheap replacement screens
