you found somewhere that will insure you on a 16v then ?
at your age mate insurance will be the killer decider on any car, is it worth paying ?2000 insurance a year on a car that cost you 500 quid ?

too much air or not enough fuel getting through??  timing might be too low. id try this first. ;)

there are plenty of other people on this forum capable of that question, vr6 wasnt the only person here that has ever looked in an engine bay.  what about rich, mark1, david hawkins to name just a few.  :)

nah i just found out today thanks to slip of someones tongue.. otherwise it'd have been moderated out of sight i'm sure./

no...

wtf... where did i say that? dont put words in my mouth.

i said he'd help. i didnt say no one else could.

in fact despite his faults.. he was always the most helpful whenever i had a problem.

i think the self styled mk1 and mk2 elite overlook how much he's helped in areas like the mk3 forum where they dont tread.

Personally, I have no doubt that from a technical point of view he was indeed very helpfull.

It's just a shame he acted like a n ob  ::)

yeah it is a shame.

i made that post before i knew WHY he had been banned.. i have no idea why people were afraid to post up the reason

its also the reason why we couldnt understand it.. why hide the fact.. its like people are ashamed they did it

Before you go pulling things apart - put new injectors into the car.

They cost ?20 each and you need the Bosch part unless you wanna pay funny money to VW. And replace all 4 at once.

The injectors should cure most of the problem. If they don't then its not wasted money as they are only meant to last 90k miles in the first place. And hands up all those people who change their injectors - no one does.

sounds like the 16v maybe has the common 'idle stabilisation valve' problem???? or similar, its deffo down to fueling. I admit Mr 6' was helpful on with alot of diagonsis problems, but as said earlier there are others that have dared to venture under a bonnet of a vw!!!! Gambit, i find is helpfull with mk2 16v probs, give him a shout.

oh yeah as regards to under bonnet work, ermm therell be some stage by stage pics of my 16v stem seal repair soon, and also my mk4 20v head is coming off again!!!!! (still running at mo but orig head going back on!!)

Gaz :o

when you say it turns off, do u mean it just die's?

or do the gradually rev's drop off after a certain length of time until it stalls.

if you gimme a better description of the prob i should be able to give you a better answer.

he reved it then as soon as he took foot off accelerator
the revs dropped then it juddered n died

but he told me sometimes it will run great
but i dunno how

tbh its sounds like it just needs properly setup, as this is the cause of most dodgy idle/bad tempered 16v's!!

here's how to set it up
http://www.btinternet.com/~gvk_motorsport/16valvestall.html

u may have trouble getting an allen key long enough to adjust the CO%

alternativly take it to a local 3rd party specialist if you dont feel confident enough to do it yourself. should only cost ?25 to tuneup
