Post by: omex_uk on 26 July 2009, 22:13
seem when im peddle to the metal in my gti (8v) and shift the gears lag about 1/4 - 1/2 a second and then the car jolts forwards as the gear kicks in. this normal ?

Sounds like the clutch is slipping., mate make sure the clutch is fully engaged before you put the pedal to the metal.

na the clutch is fine. dont worry im not a complete noob when it comes to cars.

clutch has plenty of life left and the revs dont go up. im just a bit stumped at what it could be.

so do the revs come up faster than the car moves for a split second then catch, or is it just you put your foot down and the engine doesnt pick up at all for a split second?

its not the clutch ;)

but yeah its just like a normal shift but with a lag in the middle. only happens when im fast shifting to rag it which i hardly ever do so im not amazingly bothered

right sounds like the old digilag problem there, which is usually the result of the engine not being setup properly. do you know the engine code?

Yeah ive got the same problem. for example say im sitting cruising in low revs then quickly put my foot to the floor theres a wee jolt and a split second later its away and running fine. only appears to happen for under a second, its like a sudden hesitation then its fine, duno wot it is, anyone??

there is a sticker in the boot somewhere, or it might be printed on a sticker on the top of the timing belt cover. also should be on the inside cover of the service book. could be 2e, AGG or ADY or something similar. the numbers after this are the specific block number, its only the 1st 2/3 letters/numbers we need :)

Check your engine mounts.

right with the AGG you have a crank sensor as well as the dizzy hall sensor, so you need to make sure the cam, crank and dizzy are all lined up spot on at TDC, the ECU takes care of the rest.  alos worth getting the fault codes cleared and see what comes back
