Replace a handbrake cable?

Check out Ben Lessani (sp?) project thread, he does pretty good write ups and on the first page there should be a how to for this :wink:
PS: On my Driver it was pretty easy as it was rear hubs, and would have been ALOT easier if the father in law didn't press the brake pedal while the hub was off :angry:
Just a pity the bearings got dirty and screwed up a week later (they were smoking on the way to Birmingham :shocked: )

On a gti?
Mine was simple.... if I remember correctly you remove the plastic cover on the handbreak, you can see where the cable attaches, can't remeber what tools you need :laugh: but if you have a set of screwdrivers, and a socket set there shouldn't be any troubles! diconnect inside the car, then with the car securely jacked up, unclip the other end from the caliper then pull the cable out(or the other way around! sorry :rolleyes:). Then fitting is reverse of removal! I'd do both at the same time.

shouldnt need to jack the car up, i managed without and it was lowered. only issue you might have is the metal guide tubes will pull out with the cable, its a bit of a faff to put the tubes back in as the carpet needs to come up at the back so you can slot them back in.
