Depends on the offset (ET) of the wheels in question and the tyre sizes.

hey m8,
17s are/can be a pain in the arse on the mk3...
the drive isnt great and mine do scrub a little on the front arch liner and on the wheel arches at the back - ive rolled mine but if i try hard enough they will still rub, lol
as horney says as well!!
see my pic below
they do look good on the right wheel though!!
-
I ran 17"s on mine with a 60mm drop, you need an offset of 35 and you should be ok, I only had problems with the rears catching easy enough to cure with trimming the arch back.

Too big, 205/40/17 is the correct size.

he had his on a modified vr6 so i know they will fit a mk3 but not sure what all the diff numbers and letters on tyres mean
-
I have 17inch TT comps on mine, 205/40/17 tyres.
And i have it down about 65mm on the front, no scrubbing and i have the plastic arch liners still in all around. But dont have the arch trim on.

so what do all the numbers on the tyres mean?

205 is width
40 is profile
17 is the same
