I have heard from a friend that HIC now wont cover anyone under 25 on a VR6 mk3.
My mate is 24 and has been with him for 5 years, yet they wouldnt cover him on a VR6 mk3, even though he has had a whole host of modified cars, including turbos etc.
They also now wont do 3rd party on other cars.
Is this true? Sounds like HIC are going the same way as a lot of other insurers. Dont want to leave HIC, but i might have too if i cant get VR6 insurance at the age of 21. When other people on this forum have mk5 gti's at 21! lol

trying speaking Directly to HIC and get the FACTS.
Simples

You could always try Brentacre, what ever happens you will need engineers report to confirm the standard of work carried out.

Not true
Why not, if you putting a VR6 in they will want it confirmed that everything is in spec.
-
Not from what they've told me. Both HIC and Brentacre have actually answered me like i was asking a stupid question when asking if an engineer's report is needed. I also know of a mk2 vr6 that didn't require an engineer's report with Brentacre.......

Maybe they have changed then.

Another friend of mine insures his mk2 vr6 at 21 with HIC. So my mate must just have got a moddy person on the other end of the phone. Panic over.

pm martinb and he will give the "correct" answer

martin b hooked me up last year, good lad, i reckon i will just get him to ring me for renewal.
Its a case of, if they wont insure me for a conversion, i wont renew it in september, conversion done or not. Will go else where. lol

i have a mk2 vr which i had when i was 23 no engineers report and 0 no claims
I got insured for a very good price

They have quoted me on a VR mate at 21 :)

HIC can insure under 25's on VR's (under 21's may struggle though) but being a broker the various companies we use to underwrite the policies have different criteria so it may be the particular company/scheme your mate is with would not (although i cannot think of any off the top of my head that would not, especially if he has been driving the types of car you mention).
Same with driving other cars, depends on the underwriter - some we use allow it from 21, some dont allow it for anyone under 25, there are other factors too eg occupation (normally cant get it if work in motor trade etc)
