Just had another look at my front tyres this morning and they are getting very close to their limit so its going to be time to change in the next month I think. I want to get rid of my 17s and get 18s. Iv been racking my brains and have got it down to these 3 but just cant decide which ones I want :undecided: I think I know and then see the other and think ohhhhhh
What do you guys think? They are all going to be reps as I cant afford genuine and they are all priced as near as makes no difference the same price. I just dont know . . .
Help!

2 or 3 for me
should have created a poll Alan
-
3rd one. First one doesn't look OE and the second one will be difficult to refurb which it most probably will after winter.

I'm going to buck the trend and go for #1
Really stealthy and tasteful too (imho) - what colour car is it again? Black IIRC?
Nice
Dan
-
Yeah shes black.
-
the centre badge in the first one looks like it's already corroded
-
lol the first 2 wont come with centre badges so will have to buy them separately hummmmmmmmz
-
2nd for me, love deep dish
-
I've literally just spotted a bit of white worm creeping in off the edge of my second set of monza II's (car is three years old, wheels one year old) and am contemplating whether to try and haggle with VW to get money towards some CH's instead of another set of new monza's!!
So for me the matt black CH would be interesting.
I wouldn't mind, but I'm fanatical about cleaning the damn things as well and give them a coat of sealant once a month. But my new tyres sit ever so slightly up and off the edge of the rim and I have spotted lots of tiny little white circles!!!
-
My 17s are curbed to sh!t aswell :(
When I get my 18s I shall be parking 3 foot from the curb
FYI here is a pic of Greenhouse with wheel No.1
(http://i283.photobucket.com/albums/kk284/Greenouse/P4130068.jpg)
-
No curbing to mine whatsoever!
In fact, thinking I might get VW to replace them and then sell the brand bew ones they give and replace them with some nice CH's.
-
No2 out of those.
Why....Well Number 1 as a rep will most likely be made in China from Plasticine and number 3 will need refurbing after the first winter with the white worm disease.
The issue with number 3 is less, but still of note....Size and offset options maybe limited. The ones I've seen are 8.5" with a 45 offset, which are okay as long as you don't plan on much of a drop.
I'd have personally gone for Pro Race 1.2's as all these will be hefty (all 12.5kg plus) and the 18" TDPR's are 9kg. Obviously if you are after show rather than go, number 2 gets the definitive nod from me
-
Im after a decent compromise of both, obviously want them to look nice but I love a spirited drive as much as the next GTI owner so I STILL DONT KNOW lol :undecided:
Why....Well Number 1 as a rep will most likely be made in China from Plasticine and number 3 will need refurbing after the first winter with the white worm disease.
This is also my fear :undecided:
Tempted to play it safe at get the Monza2s . . . or maybe the LMs.... ARGH lol
-
2 gets my vote.
I think black wheels look good but not great with a black car - maybe on my tornado though
After spending a fair bit of $$$ on wheels you want to stand out a bit and getting the monzaII's is going to be lost on all but the golf geeks.
All IMO of course, don't think you can go wrong with any of them.
-
LM's all the way
-
2nd ones with out a doubt! Monzas suck!
-
Alright Alan,
Out of the 3 definatly number 2, only problem is with LM's you need a low stance to pull it off well. CH's work with factory or mild drop but I personally would avoid the black on black IMO, doesn't quite work, I also don't like the red, but thats my opinion.
The monza 2 fakes are going to be heavy! BBS monza's ain't light from what I have read and there hollow technology so these I would guess will weigh a ton. Also you can tell there not genuine.
IMO i'd wait for a set of pescara's to pop up, or even there was a set on satin black BBS monza's going on mk5golfgti.co.uk for £600 with tyres!!
I'll be in the same situation soon, and I know i'm going to hang on for a set of quality wheels, i've done the rep thing with the mk4 and the differance when swapping to a decent set of wheels is night and day!
Sam
-
Hummms swaying towards the LMs. I dont really want a set of standard pescara as I feel they are reserved for ED30s and get the impression of being a bit of "wannabe".
If I get the LMs and they look a bit too high I can always lower her a bit, what wheels you toying with Sam?
-
I like black Alloys but it's black overkill on a black car and in the words of Nigel Tufnel It's like, how much more black could this be? and the answer is none. None more black.
Last year I bought some Monza II reps they looked great but they felt so heavy I changed my mind and got rid of them on ebay to a guy with a remapped Diesel.
I like no1 and the red ring, but I would stick with silver.
-
I'm toying with a few Alan,
Pinched from golfmk5gti.co.uk tornado red section:
LM's think they would have to be 19's though and also don't want to slam this car, liking the comfort compared to the mk4.
Black with silver lip CH's obviously only in USA can you drive something so slammed, againw ouldnt be this low! Possibly have to be 19's but may get away with 18's
(http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm104/tomashandmilly/car%20colour%20pics/3370753217_4d0e4f73bd_b.jpg)
Or these  if I can find/afford! but in silver or dark, not red  my balls are to small to do something like that! Think there 19's though aswell
(http://i574.photobucket.com/albums/ss183/caltdi/a72.jpg)
-
Black edition CH's just look great!
That last pic is the kind of look you're going for isn't Sambo? Looks really good with the satin black bits, agree with you though that the red wheels are maybe a step too far!
Reckon that the black CH's or even some black monza's (detroits?) would be awesome on your car mate.
-
No1 I think would look ace.
-
Alan,
Theres a set of 4 vdestrian tyres with 7mm tread going on mk5golfgti.co.uk for your monza's for £150!
May be worth snapping them up to get you by until you can find the wheels you want rather than settling for something you may not be 100% happy with, also you will get more the the monza's with decent rubber so will pay for itself if you sell the 17" monzas once you sort some new wheels!
Just an idea, Sam :afro:
-
Hummm. Ill be keeping the Monzas as they are kurbed to sh!t so wont fetch much, just going to leave them in the garage until the sad day comes and the MK5 moves on and I will put them back on. Im still on the LM boat at the moment . . .
Heres the only black MK5 I could find with LMs on . . . ..
-
Yer that looks mean  but there 19's I think , and it makes all the differance IMO..
Wouldn't mind a set of them myself, don't think I could afford genuine 19's though! wander what the rep quality is like?
Sam
-
19s are too big for me. Iv spoken to a few people with reps and they all seem be pretty decent. Tophs are reps and is selling but again they are 19 :(
-
lm's are done to DEATH alan,
number 3 are pants,
number 1 would be different,
cant belieeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeve you narrowed it down to those 3
-
LM's mate, is your car slammed? get the centres done in black  would look ossssssum! :afro:
-
LM's mate, is your car slammed?
This is up for debate, I haven't changed the suspension on it but several people have asked if mine is lowered as it looks low AND when at Brands last month compared it to another MK5 on 17s and mine was a good inch and a bit lower :undecided:
Anyone heard off / used these lot before? http://www.merseyspeed.co.uk/ - I wouldn't trust a scouser as far as I can thrown him.

I may be interested in them, depending on price and when he's selling
-
It would be set one for me but not in black.2 is very nice but as before not shure what they would be like after a winter ?. I was tempted by a set of replica ch but in the end found a set of edition 30 alloys (which i really wanted) & went for these.
-
Right, spoke to R-Tec in St.Albans and they will provide BBMS LM reps, tyres, fit and balance. They have however given me some food for though.
They want £1012.00 to fit them with Eagle F1 Asymmetrics
They are doing a deal with Kumo tyres and want £720.00 to fit them with Kumo 712s
I know nothing about Kumos, anyone know if they are any good or should I pay the extra £300 and get the F1s?
Just found this pic ! hummmmmmm SOOOOLLLDD !!!!

DONE ! Booked in for the 8th.
EXCITED lol . . . . . .
-
I think you made the right choice
-
Nice one, definatly the right choice out of the 3 and to be honest LM's aren't that common on the mk5 anyway, unllike CH's :smug:
I'll wait to see what the 18's look like on your's before making my mind up
Sam
-
Should look smart mate. I think those ch's with red lip are horrible! Cant you pick the wheels up sooner and fit yourself?
-
No, they need ordering and won't arrive till the weekend but at the forum Thorpe Park meet this weekend so it's going to have to be the weekend after :(
-

-

Keeping the 226bhp run quiet then?
well 227bhp is stock, so due to a bottle of Redex put in the tank on that occasion answers your question.
And if i wanted to keep quiet, i wouldnt of given Permission to JKM to advertise it on their site .
Keep up

Just one small point but can you get a chrome cover for the locking wheel nut ? just spoils the look with the other bolts being chrome.
-
Looking quality mate! make sure you get some decent coilies now!
And about the locking wheel nut just get a set of McGuards. if you ring demon tweeks they do them prety cheap and also without a doubt order yourself a tub of rim wax other wise they will go not nice
