ok so views on strecthed tyres on a 6x15 rim? think it would look too small? maybe a 165/55 tyre? :undecided:
-
tbh if your rim is only 6j, there really is no point in having stretch. The whole point of it is to give some extra clearance.
Just stick to a nice 195 tyre dude!
-
No point to be honest, I would stick to 195/50/15's
-
same again, you want like a 9J wheel to get some nice stretch. mine are 7.5J and i have a straight wall, if not slightly stretched. running 195/45/16.
-
as pointless as wearing skinny jeans
-
can someone tell what the "j" means please. My wheels are 205/8" so are they 7j?
-
I would go for something smaller than 195/50/15 if you are concerned about the look. Maybe a 45 or 40. As 195/50/15 does look pretty tractor ish.

The J number is the width of the rim, so if you have 8 inch wide rims they will be 8J.

i should of said i was thinking of this because i was thinking of whacking some decent sized spacers on the back.. :undecided:
i mean ive seen strecthed tyres on a 6j d90..
-
On my VR6 standard BBS's ive got 195/45/15's :)

so 6j is 152mm. And he is talking about streching a 165 tyre?
-
thought standard rims were 6.5 anyway?

get some 20mm or 25mm spacers and do it!
-
165/50/15's would look ace with spacers.
-
agreed, put some spacers on and stretch!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Going for a smaller tyre will always make your rolling radius smaller so speedo will be out etc.
-
But it looks better :P
Only makes it slightly under the correct speed so isn't too bad really

All of this makes for scare mongering.
It doesnt actually make that much difference.
But it sounds really clever, and is a good reason for people on this forum to keep their cars standard, and just dream of other mods. lol
-
I am yet to have the correct rolling radius rims on my car  its fine lol
-
cheers for the input fellas, may have to get the ball rolling on this
-
guys whats your view on spacer size, the le mans are et38 and im keeping the arches and cant be botherd messing about cutting/rolling the inside lips
-
I have no idea tbh mate, but I was going to run 20mm spacers if I kept the VR6 alloys on :) maybe 15mm with no arch work pre-done and stretched tyres? :)

yeah et23 with strecthed tyres doesnt sound too bad
-
I would go for 15mm, should be fine or be brave and run 20mm on the back.
-
Thing is with stretched tyres on such a small rim, run 20's, and if it rubs, its only going to be a small coilover adustment.
But you could get your arches rolled by "arch enemy". They come to you. Friend had it done on his mk2, top job!

yea but my plastic arches are staying that would be the only problem

They can still be rolled all they do is trim the plastic back, make sure if you do it you give it a good coat of waxoil after.

Ah yer.. my merc wheels had a final offset of 21 so should be sweet mate :)
-
just wondering whats the point of tyre stretching? why not fit the proper tyre for the rim that you are using... plus you will be getting more surface area on the road so a little better grip. Only thing I can think of is to stop the tyre wall rolling in corners but still...
Ryan :D
-
My current wheels wouldn't fit if they had the correct tyres lol!
-
god im so tured of hearing this argument.
2 things, stretch tyres allow bigger wheels on cars (because the tyre doesnt sit on the arch)
and numbro 2, think about it a stretched side wall will move a lot less then a standard one so belive it or not but a stretched 165 will grip better round sharp corners in the dry then a 185.
as for rolling radius check this out http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html (http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html)
