Have a look on eBay if you havnt already, normally lots of clocks goin on there.
-
if the speedo still works, simply swap it into whatever replacement clocks you get. just make sure you get the right clocks for your car. hazard on column = 1 p[lug, hazard on dash = 2 plugs

Read somewhere recently that the speedo cable on 140mph clock is unique to that particular unit... the cable end will not connect to any other clock - 120 or 160mph
A 140mph clock is quite hard to find - one reached over £55.00 on ebay recently.
Helpful to know that the speedometer part of the clock unit can be swapped with a replacement.

Its a myth that one, the cables themselves are the same its the gear on the gearbox end that differs, this is matched to the gearbox not the speedo.
MK2 speedos all have the same cable connection on the back regardless. However the 1.0/1.3 speedo has a different ratio to the 1.6-1.8, plus I think the syncro ones too?
-
its just the drive that differs on the cable end. there only is two types and they only cost about £7 from VAG so not a big issue as to what clocks u get for teh speedo cable

^ do you mean the cogs Gambit? I paid £4 sommat each iirc ( I bought both because I didn't know which the GTD used and VW Oxford could not tell me either ! )
-
theres 3, red, white and green. though the green one is rarely used :)

This car has 140mph clocks in it. Give Mat a ring however he does know how much they go for..

When you say the clocks have 'given up', is that everything or just certain bits of it, the solution may not be too difficult, as RJ says, you can easily swap the 140 speedo into a 120 pod whether vdo or motometer. It has been done on my VDO single plug pod which has a motometer 140 speedo. Changing the blue circuit board over is possible but these are old now and the plastic is quite brittle, its tricky to do I would say without breaking a connection somewhere? :undecided:

Cheeky Question: If your 140mph clocks are the later single pin version and the MFA works, is there any chance that I could have them?
Of course a contributions to a beer fund of your choice would be made.
My MFA screen has a crack in it, but clocks are fine and don't want to pay the £30 + postage that the whole unit goes for on e-bay.
