Can you get these in the same colour as your car?
And in a smooth finish? instead of the grained finish.
Cheers.
-
Also along with the side skirts...
just think it would look proper nice if they were colour coded.
-
dont think ya can mate...
i guess you would have to have them painted, but not sure if they would look right ?
but i may be wrong, what colour is your car? :)
-
same as yours
black smooth arches would look sexy as f**k on it :-)
-
They dud colour code rub strips. But they searched those cars. Have seen them done custom and it looked wrong! So wrong. But in black mightvlook ok.
-
thats ok then, i thought you would be saying its bright green, lol :)
you can see what people say on here, but i guess spraying it will be the only way!?
get someone to photoshop it on? :)
-
take a look at this pic, Its made me want them

Its REED5410's Post.....
What you guys think of the arches....
-
Do you think they are just smoothed and sprayed?
or are these standard on this model?
-
few reasons why i want them.... 1 I'm sick of mine been a dull grey. and having to peanut butter them lol, and 2, i think they look crap in grey. they should have been colour coded.
-
They never did colour coded GTI arches especially on a driver
Sand the textured finish down with sandpaper
Give them a coat of plastic primer then give that a light sand with wet and dry
Then give them a coat of high build primer, then give that a light sand with wet and dry + do another coat
Give them another light sand with wet and dry and apply your top coat
Then once you're happy, lacquer over the top
Easy
-
To be honest if it were me, I'd remove them from the vehicle, clean them thoroughly, give them a coat of plastic primer, and then spray them matt black.
At least they won't fade then :)
-
Cheers m8.
I'm gunna have to do something to them, its doing my head in, they look nice when there either back2black or peanut buttered.
Smooth would be best tho. look proper nice.
-
I would scrub all of the crap silicone back to black and stuff of with fairy liquid. Then apply a GOOD blackener. One that ain't in a spray can or meant to be eaten.
-
Any suggestions on a good blackener??
Also... can this be done with the plastic trims left in place on me car, or will it damage the paint work?
Thinking about it now, I need.... My arches, plastic parts of the bumpers, the door strips, and the roof spoiler doing.
Also, What is the best polish to buy for my black golf?
I want it looking showroom condition  before i do any nice mods.
-
Take them off and leave them off, no problems with them fading then.
-
I would, but i'm worried i might find some nasty suprises behind them lol

I would, but i'm worried i might find some nasty suprises behind them lol
Be brave, take them off and have a look.
-
I really darn't. please dont tempt me, lol
-
If there is just pit them back on! Simples. As for blackener I use some stuff in a tub. You rub it in. Not sure what it's called.
-
Find out
I like them on to be honest, just want them black with the rest of the grey bits.
-
I use boiled linseed oil! Costs about 3 or 4 quid from a diy store and lasts bloody ages! I can't remember the last time I put it on my car and the trim is still black as the ace of spades! Give it a go!
Pete
-
Sounds like a gooooooood product. I'll have a look for it.
thanks pal
-
I use auto glym bumper care
or WD40 when I'm in a hurry :lipsrsealed:
-
Hey mate.
sorry Mot to get back last night i got called out :(
i use boot polish. and in well happy now.
mine had gone all grew but now the are really black!
normal black boot polish. use a brush to put it on then leave it to set.
once dry its all in the buffing. you will be happy. and it lasts!
i just kept re applying until i was happy!
i think it would be easier than painting :)
-
Hi had the exact same problem with my GTi but as mines white it really stands out when grey!!
I got so sick of applying back to black and all other products i took off the side trim and then masked the rest off on the car. Went up to B&Q and got me self some Matt black spray paint.
Been nice and black for about 4 months now!!
Only cost me like £5
RESULT!!
-
Theres alot of trim to take off tho, thats my worry and i can definately say, i bet i'll end up not been able to get them back on lol.
Painting them is a great idea i know, but I'd have to remove the arches, boot spoiler, parts of the bumper. :undecided:
-
Wurth sell a great product for getting them back to black. It is a plastic dye.

Trust me it is easy to remove, will take you a max of 1hr to remove arches / skirts.
-
If you car is not slammed, you can driled the arches of without taking the wheels off.
If it is lowered i would advise taking the wheels off to be able to get the angle on the drill.
I didnt want to refit mine, so i went for the bigger drill bit, and not taking the wheels off.
As for removing side skirts. It takes about 20mins. Then about a month to get the glue off. I ended up leaving it for the bodyshop to sand off.
-
I only took off the side trim, the rest of it i masked off (Arches, bumpers, spoiler and spliters) don't take that long at all. Took me in total about 2 hours... making sure it was all done properly. Any paint that did happen to go on my lovely White GTi i just gave a quick T-Cut and looked good as new. I even sprayed the VW badge at the back too  that now means i don't have to spend all that time buffing them up with stupid products every month and that saves me time and money......i'd defo suggest doing it theres a thread already about spraying them somewhere (can't find it tho)...see for yourself...
-
The narrower side strips are on GL's and some VR6's as standard.
You can buy the whole set from Eurocarparts like I did but thats over £100.
Then of course you have to paint them yourself to match the car!
Or if you are really lucky you may find some your body colour in a scrappy!
Oh and if you do be very careful with the clips on the back as they are a pound a pop from ECP!
-
The narrower side trim is also available on Ventos, I got lucky with a set on ebay really cheap.
-
Just spray em...job done  you won't regret it i can tell ya that
-
i bought mine from the dealer. Was about £20 a peice. But genuine Cl parts.
-

Yes but you will break the clips when you remove them, cheap enough from vw however.

Or if you get them off and all is ok then leave them off.

fully colour coded mk3s look naff end of
-
lol
As mine is black, and the plastic covers are supposed to be black, then it wont.
On a Red one maybe lol
-
I had a black 5dr, to be honest did not see the point of the arches / skirts as you could not really see them against the black, if I had a lighter colour car I would leave them on.
A couple of pictures of mine if it helps in any way, this was also fitted with CL bumpers / mirrors and side rubbing trims.

Like I said earlier on in the thread. I used to use Auto Glym bumper care, and it's pretty good stuff to be honest
