Title: Steering problem with 2.0 mk3 GTi
Post by: Clobba on 20 July 2009, 09:42
How you all doin. I'm pretty new to all this forum stuff so bear with me.

I've got a mk3 2.0 Golf Gti in completely original condition. had it for a few months but the steering wheel has started juddering when i turn the wheel when the car is stationary and when on full lock. It also squeals when on full lock.

Can anyone help me?

I'm pretty skint so was hoping to sort it out myself, because i don't want to go to a garage to get charged just for someone looking at it

Hello, I would suspect air in the system or a rack problem.

Or low steering fluid, sqealing could be slipping belt, but get the fluid level checked.

thanks.

I've checked the fluid level and that seems to be ok. what would it mean if there is air in the system or a problem with the rack?

The system should be self bleeding, so it is either drawing in air from somwhere, or there is another problem, you need someone to look at it, is the steering heavy?
