Title: MAF unplugged cost me 10mpg
Post by: DAVEMARX on 20 July 2009, 00:15
I ve been having trouble with my MAF and had to go on a little road trip.

With the car running so bad i unplugged the MAF on the way there and put it back in for the return trip.

I took it easy and drove  aircooled style, slow lane at 60mph

All went well apart from high fuel concumption so heres what i found out.

MAF unplugged
67.8 mile @2500rpm 60mph.............29.8mpg

MAF plugged in
67.8 miles @2500rpm 60mph...........38.6mpg

I ve also done the trip when the car was running sweet with everything plugged in where it should be..

67.8miles @3000rpm 70mph...........37.3mpg

Im not sure if these figures are acuate as im getting them from the mfa which seems to work ok

So im just wondering what everyone is getting out of theres..

Dave

If your getting better mpg with the airflow meter dissconnected then its probably faulty.

As I said in your earlier post, I would suspect your MAF is knackered.

yeah, ive had mine in the early 40mpg.... and around town i get around 25mpg. a steady 70, get me around 40mpg. at 80... its 37mpg... roughly. on a late 8v gti which is in need of a good service. so i'm hoping i could get more.
