Im half way through changing the rear speakers in my 5 door Mk3 gti - The old speakers have 2 plugs on it both with 2 wires coming out of each, 1 plug has 1 Brown/Red wire and 1 Blue/Green wire - The other plug has 1 Blue wire and 1 Brown/Yellow wire,
So I have 4 wires but only need 2 - What ones do I use????
Plese help
Thanks

Hi Never messed with these so just guessing really but the reason for the four wires instead of two is more than likely due to the tweeters built into the rear door. If you want to disconnect the tweeters in the door then connect the stereo and turn it on. Use the one wire from one side to determine which one powers the speaker and which one powers the tweeter. Then repeat the procedure for the other two wires. Then you will have the two wires you need for your new speakers.
Hope this helps
Cheers Dean

Think you need the wires with brown stripe on!
There is a thread about this on here so do a SEARCH!

did a SEARCH! but could find the answer so i replied to an old thread

I assume you mean you Could Not find an answer!
It may well have been in the Mk 3 Section.
But anyways its easy enough to establish which are the tweeter wires by just looking!
Then do as described above!

regarding the front speakers i have just bought new front componants but would i be able to leave the standard front tweeters in and just wire up the 6.5" ones? cant be arsed to fiddle about with the old tweeters while they still work.

You can as I did that coz I put 3 ways in the doors originally.
But you will get a better performance with the new tweeters.
