Title: using modern 1.8 T engine in mk2 GTI
Post by: no name on 15 July 2003, 12:38
Hello to you all.
I have a golf GTI 16v year model 1990 with a KR engine 139hp (standard). recently it satrted to burn oil from the velves seal and my mechanic adviced me to change the engine to a new one. I live in israel, and parts for my golf are hard to come by.
my question is will a 1.8 liter turbo engine (150hp or 180hp) fron the golf mk4 or a TT fit's my car?
Will it nead a lot of modifications?
Will the original gearbox fit the modern engine?

Surely his mechanic is trying to sell a new engine ;-)

Justin
