Hi guys,
Another question lol
Just removed the topend after draining all the coolant however some still went into the cylinders. How bad is this? Am I going to have to take the sump off and get all the oil out or is it ok to fire up and see what happens????

hi you will always get some in the engine. all u gotta do is wipe the excess out of the bores then put it back together and change the oil and filter which we always do when we take a head off at work hope that helps:grin: :grin:

Sweeeet :) Good call on the oil filter, will change the oil as well incase of mayo.

when i fitted gti head to my driver we fired her up on the old oil and coolant so as to check for leaks etc, then flushed everything out and filled up with fresh. oil change after 1k miles is also good idea :)

When you flushed it, did you use proper flush chemicals? I've been recomended not to if I did it to my Golf GTi.

Why not, engine flush should not hurt it.

yes was flushed with wynns engine flush, coolant system was flushed with water.
there are horror stories about flushing older engines out as there is a possibility that its the sludge and crap in the engine that fills hairline cracks etc and if you flush it away your left with a screwed engine. however, if the car has been looked after and properly serviced at regular intervals, then there should be no problem.
mine had 188k on clock, and didnt cause a single problem :)

yeah i did a flush in my 160k GTI. it cleaned out my oil cooler really well, so well it took all the crap out that was holding it together. oil in water yay. bypassed it and eventually put a 2.0 engine in there :grin:
engien itself was fine, pulled well and didnt smoke before or after the flush.

+1 - although I used some ATF, the theory is the same. My car burns oil like theres no tommorow and I don't think I have the time to cover 180k to fill the gaps with oil crud.
